Hallo!

I wanna ask you if it's possible at the Kantors or at the banks to exchange a quite big amount of PLN to USD cash, something like 4-5k PLN in USD.

Thank you in advance.

Absolutely. You can change as much cash as you want at kantors, although it would be wise to make special arrangements for any serious amounts of cash. You can even negotiate the rate online with some kantors - I did this just yesterday, and got 4.13 (when buying Euro) when the interbank rate was 4.12005. If it had been a serious amount of cash, they were willing to go down further.

Banks will not really negotiate on the rate unless you're transferring regular large amounts of cash (i.e., a minimum of 10k EUR on a regular basis).

I just sent USD to Poland yesterday by the way of MoneyGram.
They exchanged my USD to be picked up in PLN at a rate of 3.71.
Next time I will send USD to be picked up in USD.
Send $500 USD they pick up $500 USD.
Let my Polish friend take it to the bank and exchange it for the higher rate.
Live and learn.
Thanks for the information delphiandomine as it was very useful.

Great! Thanks guys!

I was worried that kantors and banks in PL have not really big amounts of USD cash to give.
That's great to heard.

If it's a large amount, order it in advance so that they've got enough physical cash on hand. Banks in particular don't tend to hold much USD to hand, and even many banks won't have much EUR beyond a few hundred.
