Driving from Krakow to Wroclaw to Gdansk in June (roads and driving time info)

HI, I am planning on driving from Krakow to Wroclaw on June 11th and then from Wroclaw to Gdansk on June 13. How are the roads between these cities? How long would it take to drive from Krakow-Wroclaw and Wroclaw-Gdansk. Are there tolls? Police?

Is it for the football games? Traffic will be a nightmare, it'll take hours and hours. Best thing would be to get a plane between the cities. Normally, I'd suggest a train, but with all these train accidents in the last few months you might be better flying

It'll be cheaper too, you can fly for about 100zl and the cost of petrol for your trips would be huge.

I had posted a reply, it will take about 10 hours from katowice to Gdansk including 1.5 hours of breaks. I think I came across 3 tolls, but I had a book of tokens from the inlaws. I can not remember the toll charge, but it was no more than 2 euro. The roads I found to be in good order. Just keep your speed up and you will be fine

Driving between Krakow and Wroclaw is fine and fast (about 3 to 4 hours).
From Wroclaw to Gdansk you should rather fly or... drive and make a stop in between - Torun would be nice - it is Euro 2012 free city, so good to take a breath, It has nice medieval city center with lots of nice pubs.

About trains, yes there was an accident lately but trains still are much safer than cars statistically... So good option would be to buy a ticket in sleeping car of a train between Wrocław and Gdańsk (10:47 p.m. from Wrocław and you are at 7:54 a.m. in Gdańsk well-rested). But you should book it fast.

I wouldn't be surprised if the fares don't skyrocket during that period.

The train I was referring to is offered by Intercity company, so you can buy it via internet (you have to first register on their site): bilet.intercity.pl/irez/

but... I'm sure it works if you have Polish identity card... not sure how it will work with foreign one..

I'm using them for booking bussiness trips, and they are fine. I don't know what is the fee though, because it is some general arrangement with company I work for. No idea if they work for individual people and at what cost. Ask them via email: koleje@flyaway.pl

Anyway buying at the station is the last and rare option I'm using...

jwojcie: Krakow - Wroclaw in 3/4 hours? Are you kidding me? They have the A4 highway there, don't they? 2 hrs max. Just steer clear of police radars.... and follow no more than 10% of the locals, but those do follow :-), that way they are caught and you are not. Anyhow, A4 will work for you.

from my understanding on the A1 and other similar highways they have increased the speed limit.

Up to 140km/h now. They won't stop you for anything under 160km/h.

Sensible limit for Poland - they can't be trusted with an unrestricted limit, but 140km/h is more than fast enough.
