I want to ask how can I arrive Auschwitz. I am newbie about routes and trains.

I will get on train at Łódź Fabryczana or Kaliska, but I do not know the rest - public transportation, trains etc.

What would be my main route to Auschwitz? I want to visit there.

And the prices, what would be total cost? Most of train websites are in Polish and do not have any info.

I am sorry, I realized that it was a complex question. But I hope, you understand me - visiting individually to Auschwitz from Łódź with minimum cost -.

Thank you very much for your interest!

Auschwitz is called Oświęcim in Polish. This is what is written in all timetables.

Search all train routes in Poland (in ENGLISH)

The best way is to go:

Łódź Fabryczna to Trzebinia. (and then change train)
Trzebinia to Oświęcim

(I think the price would be around 50 zl)

It takes between 4,5-7,5 hours. So be careful when you search for the route. If you are not careful you might have to change train 4-5 times. But if you are careful, you will have only 1 change and it will take about 4-5 hours.

Dont forget to visit Krakow, it is close to Oświęcim. And it is a fantastic city.

Thank you for your interest!

Yes, train.

If you want to travel cheap, go from Krakow to Warsaw with InterRegio-Train. And then change to InterRegio to Lodz.
Traveling Krakow to Warsaw with Express or Intercity trains is much more expensive. However Interregio is not very comfortable. If you want a little better comfort, to rather good price, you can use TLK-trains.

Uh - wouldn't it be far more expensive to do Warsaw-Krakow-Lodz by IR than simply taking the TLK from Krakow-Lodz?

As far as I know there is no TLK Krakow-Lodz (without changing train in Warsaw). And then it would be cheaper to go with IR and change in Warsaw.

There's at least four a day according to http://rozklad-pkp.pl/?q=en/node/143 - and at least 2 IR. Several more possibilities exist with a connection - there's really no need at all to go near Warsaw.

The trains from that area all call at Łódź Widzew. But certainly - no need to go near Warsaw on the return - it's needless.

Go to the link I posted above - it has an English version, and it will explain all. Just stay away from EX trains and you'll be fine :)

I checked only from Łódź Fabryczna, that is the reason.

So now I also agree. It is better to go Krakow-Lodz with TLK (or IR), without changing in Warsaw.

Aha - what I always do when searching on that site is just put the city name - and don't select a station when it prompts you to do so. It works quite well for most of Europe - and usually directs you to the best station to use.

As I remember the tram isn't very convenient. But cabs in Łódż are cheap.

Remember the memorial is walking distance from the station - you don't need to get the bus if you don't mind a bit of a walk, but if you go round with a guide (recommended) that will include transport to Birkenau.

Łódź Widzew is never the set-off station. In most cases trains from Łódź Fabryczna stop at Łódź Widzew while trains from Łódź Kaliska stop at Łódź Żabieniec railstation. However I thought that trains to Cracow set off at Łódź Kaliska mostly.

I've checked it for you: IR train is at 6.14 a.m. from Łódź Fabryczna, arrives to Cracow about 11 o'clock. The next direct train is at 4.46 p.m. And those are the only direct trains to Cracow. On the other hand there many trains from Łódź Kaliska (TLK).
Prices:
IR 43,50 PLN (if you have students' discount you have to take 33%)
TLK 50-56 PLN for second class ticket (depends on hour, not sure about the students' discount)

Attention: you have to check if those trains still course at that day you're leaving

Another option would be pks bus (pks station is at Fabryczny dworzec).

ok, I believe that if you take second class then the students' discount are in force, so there is no big difference in price of tickets

Only a small difference.
