Most beautiful small towns of Poland

Which town in Poland, do you consider to be the most beautiful, and why?

My vote would go to Kazimierz Dolny,this little historic town in Poland is known both in Poland and abroad as a great weekend getaway. With its pre-war, precommunist charm, visitors can experience a Poland lost in time. Only two hours by car from Warsaw, Kazimierz is popular with Poles and tourists alike.

The town is located at the foot of a hill by the banks of the Vistula River. There are several elevated vantage points along the hilltops around Kazimierz Dolny with the fortified tower, castle ruins and the “hill of the three crosses” being the most popular spots.

Large boats also take tourists up and down the river for a leisurely cruise

You beat me to it and I was there on Saturday as I only live 5 klms away from there, went to a wine tasting in Janowiec Castle, which is a short ferry ride over the Wisla.

Then in the evening we had dinner in the market square listening to a band and they try to put on something every weekend.


Best weekend to go there is the first week in August as they have a film festival there and there are events and open air showing of films throughout the town, and at the end of the week there is a big dance party in the Kazimierz castle.

They normally have an auction twice a year on the square in aid of the fire brigade, all the local artists donate pictures to be auctioned off. Ukpolska, what is your favorite area around KD.

Great town but surely there are several towns, like this in Poland,no? This was one of the first towns I saw in Poland and it's sad to think it goes down from here. Most Europen countries have several towns like this or above this.

Never heard of that place.

I live half way between Kazimierz Dolny and Pulawy at a place called Parchatka.

Ukpolska, what is your favorite area around KD.

Actually my fav place around there is Janowiec and it is a lot quieter than Kazimierz Dolny in the summer when the latter can be packed with Warsaw people. We usually go there in the evenings when most people are gone and the atmosphere is much better.

Here is another one of my favorites I have visited many times over the years.

Most of the wood houses in Chocholow were constructed in the 19th century, and the buildings in this region were said to be the inspiration for Witkiewicz's creation of the "Zakopane Style" of hand-joined Polish split-timber architecture. Each structure is embellished with exquisite carpentry details and beautifully maintained gardens that exemplify the pride of ownership that is the hallmark of the Podhale highlanders.

I know the place you have the church on the left hand side as you exit Pulawy. It was BOCHOTNICA my mistake.

There are a plethora of beautiful small towns in Poland. Some of them are:

- Reszel
- Zakliczyn
- Lipnica Murowana
- Żabno
- Tyczyn
- Stary Sącz
- Leżajsk
- Bisztynek
- Głogów Małopolska
- Szydłów
- Klimontów
- Lubliniec

...and a few hundred more, too many to name.

Milanowek, is a nice place as well, even though it is on the outskirts of Warsaw, there are some very nice buildings and summer residences from the 19th century.

I only happen to know Szydłów - but it is hardly a tourist destination (it wasn't this couple years ago when I visited)

btw I live in a Szydłów myself - but it's not the town you mentioned (just a village in Opolskie)

Sort of, the church is on the right hand side as you go round a corner put of Pulawy and 2 klms after that is where I live.

Pszczyna, the capital of Green Upper Silesia, formerly owned by Princes of Pless. Wonderful Castle (a palace), the park, bisons, skansen, a museum when you can find original musical instruments, also those played by Georg Telemann.

I've been to kazimierz dolny, very nice. If you are looking for a trully small rural feeling try going to eastern poland.. very secluded

I almost forgot as very close to Kazimierz Dolny is Nałęczów which is a lovely town, mainly visited as a spa and health resort.

It has a very beautiful park as well as many renovated wooden villas and other historic residences that were owned by past writers such as Zofia Nalkowska, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Stanislaw Przybyszewski, Stanislaw Witkiewicz, Stefan Zeromski and Boleslaw Prus. The last two have museums in Naleczow devoted to their work.

Zamosc: stunningly beautiful, superb beer, hardly any tourists, not expensive.

Krasnystaw is worth a visit and so is Wlodawa.

The fabulous woodcarving decoration of the organ is the work of the Bernardine fathers. The Leżajsk organ consists in fact of three separate instruments. In the side-naves, there are smaller instruments, and the largest one is in the main nave. The organ has mechanical controls (tracker system) and 75 voices altogether. It is equipped with effects, such as cuckoo, drum (tyman), birds, horribile. The organ has full 32' voice. The four cases of the main organ, connected with the choir decoration, constitute the monumental façade, which fills the west wall of the basilica, reaching the vault. The main organ is 15 m high and 7.5 m wide, and it has an inseparable connection with the instruments in the side-naves. This is why three organists can play simultaneously.

Sala lustrzana w Pszczynie
The Mirror Hall at the Pszczyna Castle. Two opposing mirrors in this concert hall are believed to be two largest single-pane mirrors in Europe.

Zamosc is a beautiful town, and zywiec is also very nice, right beside the mountains. Nowy Sacz may be a large town, but I think its a very colourful and bright town. Its one of the most beautiful large towns in Poland IMO, one of the reasons is because there are not that many ugly, gray, and depressing bloki mieszkalny all over the place, when you compare it to Lodz for example.
