I want to tour Poland by motorcycle, anybody living there have some insight on this?

Wujek_Dobra_Rada  Jul 3, 06, 09:26    #2
What do you want to know ?
Oldy  Jul 3, 06, 09:54    #3
Have you done this?
Can you think of any suggested roads or even whole routes that I should take? Fun roads/routes with winding turns, changes in elevation, etc.
Do you know any good places to rent a motorcycle?
Helmet laws, I always ride with a helmet on, but should I carry a spare for a passenger?
TomPoland  Jul 3, 06, 10:22    #4
All I know about driving on all sorts of bikes, choppers, etc. it's legal here in Poland smile
As far as helmets are concerned - yes, everybody who uses a motorcycle has to put their helmet on - it doesn't mean actually whether you're just a passanger or not. Everyone has to adhere to this rule.
The next important thing worth remembering is that you always have to turn on the motorcycle's lights even when the day-light and good driving conditions are provided.
I would also recommend you to be more careful here. The roads here are generally pain in every driver's a.. back smile, namely most of them are narrow with plenty holes on them, etc.
Finally, there is still just few motorcycle users in Poland, so there are minority. Still many car owners simply don't notice them on roads - so you'd better be careful especially during overtaking them.
That's all I think.

Becareful of the drunk russian truck drivers smile and of course be careful on the bad roads.

OK - I haven`t done that - I don`t even have a motorcycle smile but I`m Polish living in Poland.

I don`t know the details about roads when it comes to the wind - but I can tell you that 99% of the roads here aren`t steep - even in the mountains.

You and the passager are going to have to carry a helmet - that`s for sure.

When it comes to routes - here you`ve got a very good map:

http://mapa.szukacz.pl/

You can zoom it and search it as you wish. I would recomend 2 routes.

Warszawa-Radom-Krakow-Wroclaw-Poznan-Torun-Warszawa or

Warszawa-Torun-Malbork-Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot-Hel-Gdansk-Frombork-Lidzbark Warminski-Ketrzyn-Ryn-Ostroleka-Warszawa

There is a lot to see in those places and along the way as well.

I have no idea where you can rent a bike - but Im sure that in Warsaw youre going to find something.

Bikes arent very popular in Poland - and the car drivers - especially in Warsaw drive very aggresivly.

Thank you, that is the kind of information I was looking for.
I found moto4fun.pl - Moto4Fun out of Warsaw has motorcycle for rent.

We went to Poland in 2005, the people are very freindly
We crossed the border from Germany at Gorlitz and headed south to Zacopane, it is a place I would reccomend to visit
We are planning another trip there this year with the idea of Zacopane and crossing the border into Slovakia and returning thru Czech republic

Hi...

Can you help me out? Will be visiting Krakow in September and Oct. I am looking to rent a bike for a couple of days for touring S. Poland. I can't seem to find a dealer or shop to rent a bike. Do you know of a rental company? Any other suggestions?

Thanks-
Cary Young

I rode from London to Krakow and back in 2004. Motorway all the way to the German/Poland border at which point the motorway simply stopped (although they have built it now).

My only advice is do it in summer time because wet and cold on a bike for so many hours isn't fun. Plus choose something comfy rather than sporty.

Hiring vehicles in Europe is generally very expensive (relative to the US from what I have seen). If you have the time to buy something before you start and sell at the end that would be most economical, but you will have to jump through a few hoops to be able to register your motorbike if you want to register it in somewhere such as Poland or Germany.

Yeh I'll be doing it during summer
have already done enough trips to know what it's like ride in cold and especially wet :)

I'm not looking for a a to b ride either
I want to zig zag a bit and actually ride through some fun winding roads rather then highway

I'm thinking of doing it over two weeks

BubbaWoo is right. The deeper you go into the site, the more 404s crop up.

Most of that site is still under construction. I'm sure if you ever get it finished it will be a good site.

A bit disappointing that the links lead to 404s. Here was me planning a motorbike tour around Poland too...

No , i bought the bike in UK , and rode it to Poland , well apart from the wet bit between UK and Holland , quite a nice ride actually...

Its sad that Harley have lost sales , and are laying people off , but i guess the recession affects everybody....I am sure the factory will survive , they have been through trauma before , and they will get through this one too....Maybe if things get worse people will start buying fuel efficient Harleys instead of thirsty cars....?
