Moving To Krakow, looking for hidden gems

Foe the next three months I will be spending Monday to Friday in KRK. Although I know KRK reasonably well, I would still like to find some hidden gems. So if you have some great bars, eating places and fringe theater that you know I am eager to find out and discover. FYA I am not really a mock Irish bar person or a Rynek stroller - so some real of the beat Polish places. Please-thanks in advance.

Don't let stories put you off Nowa Huta - there are a few great places there!

Have a look at some of the streets off the main square - there's a nice restaurant with tables outside and a big bar a couple of doors down.

I went to a fantastic Karczma in Nowa Huta and of course it is a must to get tickets for the Nowa Huta concerts at the steelworks in September. Nowa Huta has some great post communist monuments as well, It is a real shame they will close the steelworks it is going to affect a lot of families in the area.

Yes Nowa Huta! It doesn't draw the tourists, but if you're around there anyway (I used to spend Monday to Friday there) it's got some nice places especially in summer.

In that case you'll know them. One is quite big - both have tables outside and are busy.

So PGTX what is the name of the Karczma on the road going to Sandomierz. I guess you would say it is in the New Nowa Huta district. i forget the name.

Whenever I have been in N.H it is always with people from the area. It does not seem to be that bad when you compare it to Dalston high street at 11pm.

Nowa Huta was the first place I lived when I moved to Poland. The stories are a bit over the top though. My ex hated it when I would go outside at night but nothing ever happened. Even the local hooligans standing outside the 24hr alcohol kiosks were friendly enough if you had a beer with them. Some of the nicest friends I made in Poland were from Huta. Hutnik FC were rubbish though:D

I managed to get the real estate agent down to three places one next to the sheraton, second one in Podgorze by the river and the third close to Podwale. I had heard some good things about Podgorze.

I lived in the area for over a year, great wee hidden gems, brilliant transport links and not as much hassle as living in the center, a lot quieter.

The main negative if you go out you are almost drawn to the Stare Miasto. As we get closer to the summer it will become more and more of a zoo. I was in KRK last week and I was shocked at the number of people speaking english on the streets

true... it's busy there and many students... but if you're considering Podgorze by the river, just a cross Wisla is Kazimierz and the great commute wherever you want to go...
