Narrow-gauge railway into Kampinos

Did anybody already did this daytrip by train into the Kampinos forest?

Worth visiting? How long is the ride and is it steam?

Summer is coming, and I intend to have a look at it. I heard the ride is pretty entertaining.

I'll double check when I go home this weekend, but if you are envisioning a trip through the forest, I think you will be disappointed. If on the other hand, you like narrow-gauge trains, you might enjoy it, especially if you have kids. I believe it leaves from Sochaczew (they have a museum of narrow-gauge trains there that is worth a visit) and heads towards Wyszogrod, but I don't think they have restored the track the whole distance. There is still track heading into Kampinos, but most of it still needs to be cleared. I think it is a work in progress. I'll post an update in a few days.

Thanks for the information. I go mainly because of the trains to be honest.

The train runs every Saturday in summer, leaving Sochaczew narrow gauge railway museum at 10:00 and returning at 14:50, with two stops, one at the forest end and the second for a bonfire (ognisko) for lunch. It was a steam train both times I went on it. It's a nice trip and the museum is also good. See narrowrail.net/sochaczew/

I would go from Warsaw by train to Sochaczew. Is the departing point of the narrow-gauge railway near PKP ?

Yes, the narrow gauge museum is only about 5 minutes walk from the PKP station, see maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=52.21635,20.237546&spn=0.00592 9,0.021973&z=16

Kampinos National Park is really nice forest with several secrets... it is really worth to see place.

If you like old bunkers and military buildings this place is really worth to see.
