HI Friends

I hold an Indian passport with a valid UK and Schengen visa. I will be staying in my brothers house during my stay so I dont have any hotel reservation. So do i require any invitation letter from him to enter Poland or not. He has given me his house contract copy. Is that sufficient. Please help.

Where are you starting from? If you are already in a Schengen area, no one will even look at your passport. I've never been asked where I'm going to stay when entering Poland, either before or after Schegen.

You need a visa, Polish passport, the so called "Karta Polaka" and proof that your're of Polish ethnicity back to year 1750. :):):):) It's the new law of the Roman Gietrych cabinet..

/\ rubbish. i think someone is trying to be witty.

if you have a Schengen Visa, you have nothing to worry about. there are no border checks from other Schengen countries.

As far as I know there are some country specific visas, too and Schengen wide visas. Although there's no border checks, technically a holder of a country-specific visa (a Schengen member country) should remain within that country borders.
In other words one may get full Schengen visa or one country visa.
If you're flying from UK there's no passport checks at airports, nor anywhere else though.

From the outside the Schengen border and the EU requirements are hard to understand. I've been awarded a Fulbright to teach at the University of Pecs in Hungary. I'll be getting a visa for that since I'll be staying longer than 90 days. But the directions say I can go anywhere in the EU on a visa to work in Hungary. Go figure!

You've got full Schengen visa - that's all. The one valid for one member state only is less expensive - I think one can choose which one to take when approved already. Some go to one country for few days and don't need more and over 90 days visa is probably always full Schengen visa.

It's not going to happen - they are personally responsible for you throughout your stay, and given that you don't have anyone to issue the invitation, surely means that you'll do a runner when in Poland.

Go contact your local polish embassy. All those posting here look like crap to me, without any basic educational background ... these are questions which do not need any intelligent and serious man to be looking into forums. There are enough more better and easier sources to gather them. Thats why I think students (genuine) are always the better ones to allow to come in your country, as they tend to be representing the better of their countrymen and women.

To answer the original question, if you have a valid Schengen short stay visa (type C), you can visit any country within the Schengen zone (including Poland). However, if your point of entry into the Schengen zone is Poland, you may be asked about the purpose of your visit and your address while in Poland. If your point of Entry is another Schengen country, then it is up to the passport control in that country to admit you or not. In general, your purpose of entry into the Schengen zone should be to mainly to visit the country that issued the visa to you. If you have a visa issued by Germany for example, and your point of entry into the Schengen zone is France, and when asked about your destination you state Poland, you might be asked more questions, depending on the individual passport control officer that looks at your passport. He or she has the power to make the final decision on whether you will be permitted to enter the Schengen zone or not. Regardless, I never heard of anyone being issued a Schengen visa and denied entry. Just don't lie to passport control and everything should be fine. If they catch you lying they have the power to revoke your visa and ban you from entry, without possibility of appeal.

By the way, all this information is available online and at embassies and consulates of every Schengen country, world wide.

I am irritated by the number of people offering to pay for invitation letters or even begging for them. First of all, where is your self-respect? Second, this is illegal, and if you are caught you are likely to receive an entry ban or even be deported after entry. The embassy that reviews the visa application is likely to ask about your relationship with the person that provided the invitation letter, and documentation to prove it. Also, the person that provides this letter remains legally accountable, since these letters are notarized and registered in the relevant government offices.
