Sorry, but those 4 are redeeming qualities. It's what I see as balanced commentary in this part. Other parts were inaccurate IMHO but that's just me.

AussieSheila:

The country: Poland is not a beautiful country when it comes to flora/fauna, physical landcapes and architecture. (-3)

You will be utterly disappointed if you want to enjoy nature in the country. (-1)
There is nothing distinctive in the country about wildlife, architecture, rivers, mountains or beaches. (-5)

The only exception might be Zakopane which is beautiful with high hills, pristine lakes, national park, rivers and impressive wooden architecture. (+5)

The cities and towns look like the poorest suburb you can find in a city in the west. (-1)

We travelled from Warsaw to Danzig by train and I was hoping to see some beautiful countryside along the way, but there was nothing worth looking out through the window as the railway was lined with poor, dirty and crumbling suburbs, towns, villages, industries and farms. (-5)

The disappointment was exacerbated by the train conductor who insisted we pay more because we bought student discount fares. Apparently, only Polish national can claim student discount in Poland. (-1)

Warsaw and Danzig have nothing important that is worth visiting. (-1)

We went to that tall building in Warsaw and viewed the city from there, because the air was so polluted we can't really see anything beyond 1 or 2 km. (-1)

We tried to use the coin operated binocular but it was broken (it took the coins though). (-1)

Hel has fine beaches and clean too. (+1)

Although another disappointment was there was no waves on the sea. No surfing, no bodyboarding! (-1)

The People: People I've met were generally friendly or no different than in other countries, (Neutral)

although they look glum and depressed in many places, especially in offices and shops.(-1)

Normal courtesy and politeness you'd expect in shops and offices in the west doesn't exist in Poland. (-1)

The most courteous were not surprisingly, employees of Mc Donalds, KFC, Biedronka. (+1)

Others, especially that woman at Warsaw train stn ticket counter, gave us the look and attitude that we disturb their peace by buying the products and services they were selling. (-1)

Queue jumping is common (at airport, train stn, tram stop, bus stop and everywhere) and so does spitting in public. (-2)

I've read alot about polish girls and boys being beautiful, slim unlike girls in western countries. From what I saw, this is true to some extent. (+1)

I saw less young overweight people but many overweight adults. (Nuetral)

I made my own conclusion behind this and I think it is because of poverty and lack of junk food. Most kids and teens here have money to buy whatever they want to eat, whenever they want, but in Poland many teens and young people just dont have the money. Junk foods like Mc Donalds and KFC are out of reach of vast majority of the population. I don't know if this is a reason to celebrate or not, as I believe most people in Poland would rather be well fed than go hungry. (Neutral)

Conclusion: Poland still has a long way to go, socially, culturally, economically and realistically if it want to be part of the "West". (-1)

The only thing that can rival western standard is prostitution and night club. (+1) If prostitution could be considered a positive...

In everything else, the country is way behind. (-1)

I think it is not that hard to crack a smile for a change, instead of sulking and look miserable to everyone. (-1)

By my score -27 / +9, given that prostitution is a positive. We'll let southern chime in on this point.

3-1 Negative to positive ratio hardly can be construed as balanced.

If you come to Poland and then complain that you see no kangaroos then why should you come in first place?

I agree with Torq here, If you assess the overall post it doesn't contribute anything and aim is very clear, It is trolling.

It's a wooden Norwegian church in Poland, i wouldn't say it was a common or ordinary sight :-)

I think its not trolling just europe through journey by some snobbish kids... I don't know who promise them to see anything extraordinary. Country like country, you must know what you want to see, AussieSheila seems did not.

AussieSheila  Jul 24, 10, 15:15    #52
I wrote what I saw.

I saw many women on the street at night in Katowice, my friend(polish) told me they were prostitutes. In Warsaw, all cars in one street have their windscreens covered with nightclub/sex club advertisements and I thought London telephone booth was bad.

We went to the aqua park called tropicana( i think) at Hotel Golebiewski in Wisla, it was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I saw many fat men and women there. I almost thought I was in an American resort.

Danzig? thats the name we use in our school text book. Auschwitz was also called something different on Polish road signs.

I love the foods, flaki soup was delicious and I like bigos too.

I was not too worried about safety, although my Polish friends were. I saw 3 young guys who wanted to hitch a ride from the base of Morskie Oko to Zakopane which is quite far, but my friends refused to let them in(although i asked them to come with us as it was my hired car). I felt sorry for them as it was late and getting dark.

I'll visit the country again next year, and see more places which many of you mentioned here. Hopefully I'll be able to find a car with automatic gear transmission which will make it a lot easier to visit off the beaten track as i'm not used to manual cars prevalent there.

I noticed some people are riled up, i have no intention of offending anyone.

Do not have that much time but only below point is enough.

When you read Aussie's post what do you think the aim ? Is she/he trying to contribute something or trying to draw attention ?

Maybe it was ;) In Poland we don't have a sport culture at all so at the age of menopause and andropause our parents gain some weights... its just ageing...
If it goes of young ppl u r 100% right on ur conclusion on fastfood. A meal made in home is still 3-4 times cheaper than an order in a restaurant, even in McDonalds!
I think in future Poland would be obese, we don't eat so many highly processed products but we dont work out.

AussieSheila:

Its because we have at this moment two threads about polish women being prostitutes so your comments at the end just stir up a lil bit ;)

night club.

The music is behind the times as well, this tune has just come out over there. You will see the dance floor filled with people doing this dance.

Yeah, I think it would be a good idea to see a bit more of the country before saying:

AussieSheila:

Maybe if you ponder this statement you might understand why some people are a tad "riled up".

er.. no. It's more like going on holiday to the Black Country :p

There's plenty to see and do here, and as Manchester is the second most-visited city in England (London is obviously first) and culturally way ahead of anywhere outside the capital, it's like visiting Kraków instead of Warsaw. There's far more to see and do in central Manchester than in Kraków, and far more variety than in Warsaw. Considering that 2.5 million people live in Greater Manchester, and the central areas are similar in size, that doesn't really say much for Poland's capital, does it?

By the way, I quite like Warsaw (I've been there many times and know it well) so it's not a criticism of Poland's capital, but get your facts right when talking about places you've probably not spent more than a few hours in, if at all.
