There is a small statue/figure in the tower. What?

So, you need more time for that.

I'll pass, pawian, as I don't know Kraków well enough. As you know, I was there not so long ago but I really don't know the city so well. However, I sense that that area is not so far from Wawel. I didn't explore one side of it so it could be there.

Disclaimer: I know very little of Kraków. But a puzzle is a puzzle. So, following the Sherlock Holmes footsteps:
1. Kraków Zoo (I saw pictures of Mane Sheep and Heather Sheep there)
2. University of Agriculture, Department of Animal Sciences, Chair of Breeding of Sheep and Goats - Experimental Station in Bielany
3. Błonie Meadows. Are there any trees? It looks like there are some at the borders. And I saw this article from September 9, 2011, http://wiadomosci.onet.pl/regionalne/krakow/niezwykli-goscie-w-krakowi e-niektorzy-sie-boja,1,4844318,wiadomosc.html

So it must have been a sensation. Sheep came there on 8th, and you were there with your camera three days later, on Sunday. How am I doing dr. Watson?

I'm going to say this is a root cellar, assuming it's doorway is pointing South. The reason it would be outside the modern fence line would be because properties used to extend all the way to the road.

Btw, I'm curious. Where was this taken? :)

Similar to this one and many others...

I didn't know when I posted the photo, but I think we can quite safely say it's a root cellar

One of my Ciocias has one pretty similar on her property and she said it was a root cellar (piwnica) that was older than her Babcia :) It faced the general direction of South to let in light.

Well, actually Polish does not map well to English here. Piwnica means usually the lowest underground level of the building.

piwnica = general purpose cellar (but not basement apartment-wise)
piwnica na ziemniaki = cellar for potatoes
piwnica na wino = wine cellar
piwnica na węgiel = coal cellar
piwnica z kotłownią, pralnią = cellar with boiler room, laundry room

Translating from basement in English to Polish gets you to all of the above + suterena.

suterena=basement apartment

"Root cellar" has also inconsistent mapping from Polish.

kopiec = mount, knoll
kopiec na warzywa (buraki, ziemniaki) = storage clamp or (less correctly) root cellar

ziemianka = dugout (shelter)
ziemianka na warzywa, owoce = root cellar

I really wish I was still on speaking terms with my mother. I'd love to pick her brains on this. Since her side is the side from the villages, my father's side is all city dwellers from higher classes. I'll have to ask my father about this, perhaps he might have some small knowledge on it.

I fondly remember staying at another Ciocia's flat in the countryside and inhaling all of her green apple compote that she had put aside for the winter. I apologized profusely afterwards, but it was so delicious! And she stored it in the piwnica of the apartment building. I might have the two memories of the words and storages intertwined in my memory. The root cellar my other Ciocia had that was in the ground was something else to see inside. She said it was very old and it certainly looked like it. You had to bring a flashlight with you to go in and it really was very cool and dark inside compared to the outside. There was also a wooden cross inside and some other items on a shelf. I have no idea what their purpose was, perhaps some old country superstition to protect the food in the root cellar.
