Poland to Romania (and back!)

I notice there is a shortage of flights from Poland to Romania. Anyone have any idea either of cheap flights or just decent travel to Romania (want to get to Petrosani, between Timisiora and Sibiu). Thanks.

I'm flying to Iasi later this month if you want to catch a ride. Will then go down to Bucharest for a couple of days and then head back to Poland.

Trevek: I notice there is a shortage of flights from Poland to Romania. I went a few years ago and flew via Copenhagen. I think the main traffic is to the workers in other countries or for holiday destinations not so much Poland/Romania. Good luck.

Trevek: Even cheap flights to Budapest are hard to come by I drove down to Budapest about 6 months ago. It is only a 6/7 hour drive from Krakow. Yeah it was strange for me to have to go to Copenhaugen to get to Romania, it was the wrong direction after all.

LOT has now a Promolot special at about 507 PLN return ticktet. Was checking May long weekend though.

I flew from Warsaw to Bucurest last year (came back by train). The passengers seemed to mostly be Russian/Ukrainians, probably using Bucurest as a hub for further travel.

Bucurest is a strange city.... Interesting, but kind of odd. Seems to not have recovered from the communist times as much as Poland has (but then they were hit much harder than Poland, Poland in martial law was about like Romania duirng normal Ceausescu times.

Not quite. In the 60 'until mid of 70' there was a sort of political liberalization and opening to the West, not like in Yugoslavia, but slightly higher than in Poland, at least in the cultural aspect of bilateral relations, publications, films (most of the movies were brought from western countries not from Est). Obviously, such things happened in the parameters of a communist regime.
In the 80 ' was worse than in the whole Central and Eastern Europe. Therefore, there was a significant decline, not only in economic terms. It was also a social and educational degradation. Years of isolation had a huge impact, that's why the recovery period was higher than we expected. Look to the gap between Serbia today and the rest of the Central European Countries, after the years of war and isolation. It is the same.
Now, if you visit a city (buildings, infrastructure, services, commerce), you see, in fact, the outer layer/stratum of a people's culture. Therefore, what I'm writing above has some sense. Besides, there are many other explanations (demolition of the historical site of Bucharest - o part of its downtown at the mid of 80's, bringing gypsies in old houses/landmarks to destroy them gradually in order to give a reason for demolition etc). There are many stories regarding Bucharest. Besides, the structures of the population was significant changed in the years of industrialization. So, nothing resemble with the Bucharest before the second world war,

there used to be some really cheap buses (less than 100zl) but i don't know if they still have this deal. also you'll have to spend 3 days or more on the bus.

I just got back from Iasi and Bucharest yesterday. I'll be going to Cluj, Iasi, and then Bucharest in the next couple of weeks from Wroclaw if anyone wants to come along. Can split fuel and landing fees/handling. I'll be there for about a week. A bit over 3 hours for Wroclaw-Cluj.

there are many options. One is LOT direct flight Warsaw - Bucarest, 2 ways round trip costs about 190 euros, which is a very good deal, considering that this is NOT lowcost ! The other option is Germanwings from Berlin, to Berlin there are many express trains from Warsaw, and from berlin direct lowcost flight to Bucarest and Sibiu I think

Unfortunatelly I am looking for some reasonable priced flights myself and couldn't find any for the moment. I am searching in the other direction: Bucharest to Warsaw for September. Train doesn't pay up, it's almost the same price and at a considerable amount of time in addition :(.

there are some buses from suceava to Poland and back, from romanai they are leaving monday and wensday at 4 in the morning.i will come to wroclaw in september.
