Traveling is stressful....trying to pack, make it to the airport, find parking, checking luggage, getting to the gate, boarding....

It's exhausting! I don't think passengers should be held for an excessive amount of time (enough to cause a missed flight) without reason!

Rules are rules, and security is important, but that can be enforced with a modicum of respect and courtesy. Europe (at least most of it) is not on a Third World standard!

I am sorry, but I have met more dark-skinned racists (me included) than white-skinned ones.

I'm a black spanish student, and i was thinking to visit poland... I have a friend of mine, studying in warsaw thanks to an erasmus grant... And i really like the looks of krakow, warsaw, etc.. I have a polish friend here in Madrid, and she is a very enjoyable girl... but it seems that i wrongly thinked that Polish people were kindly people, due to the comments that i have readed here...

I'm so disappointed, and very sad... because this makes people hates each other...
Be proud of your country? yes, but it has nothing to do with anger, hate, and fear...
Like a famous spanish writer said: "The nationalist believes that the birthplace is the best place in the world, and that's not true. The Patriot believes that the birthplace deserve all the LOVE in the world and it is certain" - Camilo Jose Cela

I still like your land...maybe, one day, you want to share it with someone else...

Steve.

Come over and see it for yourself and make a decision based on your experience. It'll cost you €100 and a day or two of your time. Isn't that neat? with things like Ryanair and cheap hostels, you can literally check it out yourself for practically no money.

You judge the whole country based on a handful of comments you read on the internet? Isn't that sort of... racist?

I am black and hold a British passport.

I have visited over 50 countries for work and holidays and have conducted extensive research on racism in many countries.

There is racism everywhere including black and Asian countries but the worst places I have seen it is in Eastern Europe, my visit to Poland on 3 occasions were met with hostility and clear racism during passport control and on the streets, infact on the last occasion an English couple had to intervene after I started screaming at the immigration guy. on 3 occasions they passed everyone with EU passports and when it came to my turn they pretended to be checking some computer system which I am sure revealed the passport is genuine. It is a new UK E-passport and difficult to forge or change. I could see they knew it was real but found it hard to accept and allow a black European citizen the same rights as whites!

You could see the clear hostility on the faces of customs when dealing with non-white people and you attracted a lot of angry looks if you walk on the streets with a white girl. On 2 occasions some poles have asked the girl I was with what she saw in a black man and if her parents know. She had told them, yes and he is more educated and has more going for him than all of you put together!

There is not enough space here to write my experiences in Eastern Europe; they have the largest number of semi-literate, backward, primitive, idiotic and plank-headed people on the face of the earth. I had to ask several police officers and immigration people at the airport how did Poland ever make it into the EU, what criteria was used? Were they properly rehabilitated and educated and made aware the EU is a multicultural society?

I have polish people in London cleaning my flat and most people who work for me in dirty jobs are East European and I have never tried to discriminate or abuse them. Why can some of them live in civilised countries yet not practice the same in their home countries?

Don't know why, but I find this a very amusing remark. The most glorious ppl of the world are cleaning a black man's flat? Outrageous :)

But on a serious note, all of my Polish exes always started their ranting about black ppl with following line (and it seems that all racist remarks start with this line): "I'm not a racist, but...." Also, their families were nice ppl, but when it came to coloured ppl, they were relentless.

On an even more serious note: it's generally known that Eastern Europeans are on the whole more racist than Western Europeans. But there are of course exceptions as exceptions do he proverbial rule. I think that this is because they are a bit behind the West as where integration and social emancipation is concerned. They are simply not used to different coloured ppl than we are in the West.

Yeah, but that's not racist, Shelley, that's sexist :)

Of course there are racists in the UK as well as in NL, even though we too have our fair share of black ppl. Some ppl are racist out of ignorance, others because of xenophobia or simply unfamiliarity. One doesn't exclude the other, in Eastern Europe I think it's more the unfamiliarity than anything else.

I said some racists are ignorant. Hm, educated racists...Should be a condradictio in terminis...As most educated ppl would know that it makes no sense to reject ppl based on their skin colour, yet they do?

There are two kinds of racism, offensive one with prominent representatives such as:

Sir Francis Galton
Houston Stewart Chamberlain
Julius Streicher

and defensive one - racism of victims, mostly anonymous, common people infected with it, Poles and others.

Iīd like to ask the people here if they really believe there is such a thing as different human races. As far as I know, there is only one race: The human one. Skin colour, head shape and other kinds of features donīt determinate a humanīs nature, but the way and the place he is raised in. Moreover cultures play an important role in a personīs development. You may take 2 Germans and let them grow in africa, be raised by a tribe of Sulus and theyīd end up being like them, despite of the childrenīs European ancestry.

That said, what we call racism is nothing more than a mechanism of self-defense. Same as when your parents told you not to trust strangers, you are free not to trust people from cultures you either donīt know or have known and havenīt liked.

As long as this racism isnīt violent, I see no reason to make a big deal out of it. Like there were 100% tolerant humans out there. Being "racist" is part of our human nature.

Racism is as much a disease as AIDS is. You are happy not being on the receiving end of it.

With respect this is one of the most stupid things I have ever ever heard. It's an intellectual choice to be racist. AIDS is an infectious disease (perhaps you make lifestyle choices that put you more at risk). Stating the bleedin obvious aside, it is just a bad parallel to draw.
