Still doesn't make sense to compare the two, as being racist doesn't kill the person who is racist (unless they are racist to the wrong person) but ok, I get the point you're trying to make :)

How do you know it was racism? You have no proof, I can't stand people who play the racist card, you have just made yourself look stupid. I am white English and had my passport inspected at Katowice airport for a long period, but am I saying they are racist? You make me sick. Grow up and while your at it get rid of that chip on your shoulder.

With globalisation, the trafficking of elicit goods and illegal workers in developed countries have became almost uncontrollable. Together with terrorism, this forces airport security officers to be extra vigilant. Although one may suspect that this could do very little help (the Demand Theory.. there are still odd cleaning/cooking jobs in London that only illegal Asians would take, for example).

Call this discrimination if you may, but it doesn't necessarily apply to non-whites only. Some religious fanatics in Indonesia call western girls sluts, ungodly dressed, etc. And if you were white and shop in London's predominantly Black/Asian street markets chances are the prices would be marked up - just.for.you.

That said, personally I think the extreme racism and xenophobia in many Eastern European countries have gone much too violent on the street level. I would love to chant merrily that all we God creatures are created equal. But there will always be racists, xenophobics, religious fanatics out there just as elicit fake goods/human trafficking could never be erradicated completely.

So just go out and smile to the world. There are still other things to think about in our lives.

I would like to add something to this otherwise interesting but at the same time worrying discussion.TO MOST PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO IN THEIR LIVES BUT JUST TO PASS THEIR UNWANTED COMMENTS I WISH YOU COULD REALLY LOOK AT THIS FROM THE POINT OF THE ONES WHO ARE AT THE RECEIVING END. RACISM IS REAL IN EUROPE AND MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD AND THE PERPETRATORS IN THIS POST SEPTEMBER 11 WORLD ARE MAINLY THE MEN AND WOMEN WEARING THE UNIFORM.MOST OF YOU HAVE NEVER COME ANYWHERE CLOSER TO WHERE YOU ARE SINGLED OUT BECAUSE OF THE COLOUR OF YOUR SKIN. I'd like to point out that its not that they are the only ones who will take them, they are the only ones offered them because they are below minimum wage and they are often in restaurants run by their own countrymen who wouldnt even think of employing someone of another nationality (an English person for example)- have you ever seen an English person working in a chinese or indian restaurant? (not having a dig at you, just merely pointing out a fact). Its a kind of discrimination in my own country, racism if you like, but white people are not suppose to moan about it.

which appeared to only employ Polish women as waitresses - and this was in 1994-1999. And I am NOT joking! The maître d' (or whatever the female equivalent is) was a white woman - but the chefs were definitely Asian! I must admit it was a bit surprising when we first went in, but you got used to it.

See? It can be done - so all this "you have to have a particular race/ethnicity to serve a particular type of food" is clearly nonsense. The food was great/authentic, though - but Polish waitresses hardly have any influence on the cooking, do they. lol. I wonder if it still exists?

But apart from that, I'd agree - a lot of these "restaurant" jobs are clearly non-jobs, but are just a way of getting someone around the immigrations laws "because my uncle in Bradford/Birmingham/Southall etc will find me a job in his restaurant/takeaway, etc".

Reminds me of something I read in one of the Tory papers - "just who ARE these 25% who are voting Labour?".

Many Vietnamese people are notoriously singled out at polish airports - especially in Warsaw and Cracow, as they are an easy source of bribe for customs oficers. My grandma was stopped many times at Okecie airport, and had her luggage examined thoroughly by officers who - as they have honestly admitted - were searching for some valuables, pretty things or souvenirs that could be commandeered ( meaning kept for themselves as a spoil). In another incident I was examined by 8 oficers, also at charming Okecie airport, who were looking for things that they could charge me for, ie drugs or illegal chemical substance. As a result they were studying every single thing that I had in my luggage, starting from my clothes (they thought I had "molecules of heroine sewn into cotton threads'') , ending on my souvenirs ( a wooden turtle which was obviously empty inside - it made no sound when shaked, but uberintelligent oficer still claimed it had drugs hiden within). After 3 hours of compulsorily spending time with those 8 oficers, who understood terms of "humanity" and "civilisation" in slightly different way than the majority of human beings I was free to go, but I felt sorry ( and I still do) for them and their inferiority complex as they claimed that they "can't stand even looking at those yellow creatures". My grandmother, a elegant, eloquent and courteous person with PhD degree is very considerate every time when we are forced to deal with them at customs, but unfortunately they don't quite get how she is head and shoulders above them, they always threat Vietnamese people like dirt. It is a fact that every Vietnamese are singled out every time they arrive at Okecie and asked for bribe ( quotation "you can avoid 3 hours of examination but it will cost you $100 ). Even my grandma once had to give them bribe because she was feeling very sick (she has heart disease), but the oficer wouldn't let her go unless she paid him, so she had no choice as she was close to fainting. This is the sad reality of polish customs.
Off top : Racist who are proud of their country- don't expect your country feels the same about you. I have a lot of Polish friends, but I have to admit that they are educated, well-brought up people without criminal background.

Very true. I've known a number of Vietnamese people in Poland and the way they are treated is by border guards and police is a disgrace.

I personally think that if there's going to be immigration to Poland, the country could do a lot wore than Vietnamese - who are hard working, create wealth (improving the economy, no welfre immigration for them) and assimilate well to Polish norms.

And to clarify this situation - I don't live in Poland, but I think it is quite a remarkable country with at least 75% of population enhabited by Homo Sapiens Sapiens ( yes, the second Sapiens indicates the higher level of evolution) - I don't think that just because it is statistically correct =)
