Got it, cool stuff! Some of that extreme stuff that those French snowboarders do is breathtaking! Sb called you a British pig, you can never escape prejudiced gits these days.

Looks like the snows a coming in over the next few days, Spindleruv Mlyn and Karpacz have witnessed there first few centemeters. The weather reports i have here are snow and snow showers from tomorrow continuing right into next week with temepratures sub zero at ground level from Saturday for a week. Spindle Live Cam Time to start stretching out those legs..

Try Chopok, agreed went to Lomnica myself and hated it, but there is much better skiing on the Slovakian side and this year we are going to Chopok and doing a lot of off piste skiing.

Apart from the the two twats at the start of the video this gives you an idea what is like.

SeanBM: It is towards Zakopane from Krakow. I recommend Kościelisko near Zakopane, it's less crowded and accommodation prices are lower. You can also try Gubałówka. I also enjoyed my stay in Szklarska Poręba.

mira: You can also try Gubałówka. Thats in Zakopane right, a good run with a funicular train instead of a ski lift taking skiers/boarders to the top very quickly. I like that area but found it quite limited. Does anybody know if Zakopane has a board park?

Good thread guys. Really useful information as I'm looking to start snowboarding this season. Only ever done lessons on a dry ski slope in the UK and this was a few years ago - so I'm still a complete beginner in my mind. I remember really loving it though and I'm sure it will 50 times better on snow. Anyway, quick question, when starting out - what is the best type of board/s to go for? I'm guessing size, shape, width of the board determines whether it's good for beginners/experts/speed/tricks etc but what type of board should a beginner opt for? Obviously not going to buy one straight out - will be hiring/borrowing at first but any advice would be welcome.

As a rule of thumb the board should be no taller than your chin when starting out. The shorter the board the easier it is to manouver and ultimately to learn on, once you begin to become comfortable and confident on a board your style will become apparnet and you can choose the right board for your style. i.e short board for freestyle tricks and kicks longer board for speed, stability and powder.

When starting out most boards will be stiff, extremely rigid and not so forgiving, it really is a case of get what you pay for, in any case at beginner level you wont even notice the difference, as you progress it depends what style you prefer some boards are quirky and poppy like a Lotus (hard to handle but go like a rocket) others are smooth and fast like a Mercedes (stable and safe).

My advice is to take what ever boards on offer, get out on the mountain and just go, take it slow dont be too confident at first or it'll be painfull. Have fun and enjoy, any questions come on back here and ill try and help. Learning to board is hard make no mistake many give up but once you nail that first turn youll never look back, for me its the best pass time going.

Snowboarding in Poland.

Hi, we are thinking of going snowboarding in Poland this winter.

We are planning to fly to Krakow, we will need transport from aiport and return.

We were initially thinking of Zakopane but we might try somewhere else too.

We are looking for reasonably priced accommodation close to nursery slopes and hire place for boards, boots etc and we will also need some boarding lessons.

Is there still going to be any snow by the end of this month?

Any advice on this will be highly appreciated.

Hi, I'm Polish-Australian, 3 weeks ago I was here: czarnagora.pl/en/ My cousin took me from Wroclaw. It was pretty good. I brought my own equipment, but I don't think there is any problem with renting gear and taking lessons at this place.

yep tonnes, should last right through to April the way its going even on lower resorts.

Popped down Zelieniec a couple of days ago, snow was good, it was overcast so the light was pretty bad. Had an awesome wipe out on the last run, totally bit it.

Im off to Czech Republic tomorrow for a few days of snowboarding so i'll report back when done hopefully have some nice vids and pics to upload.

I have a question, we go snowboarding in Karpacz (because its easy to get to for us) This being my first year in PL i was wondering when(ish) the season ends? we asked a helpful guy in the hire shop who said "When the snow has gone" great but does it go as far as mid march? Thanks

it is not an exact science, I was skiing last March but that does not mean it is 100% this year but given how long and cold this particular winter is, I don't think you'll have a problem.
I am unfamiliar with Karpacz but ski slope companies usually make their own snow to keep it going.

Ive been everywhere. In Dolnoslask only Zieleniec I would mention for beginners, but its improved over the past 2 years. Czarna Gora used to be a favorite but there are just way to many people there, waiting in line for 30 minutes is not fun, and evidently the concept of grooming ALL of the slopes seems to be missing.

Do not go to Karpacz or Sklarska Poreba, its a total f'ing nightmare. And if you're already going in that far just drive the extra 20km into the Czech Rep where the conditions are superb like in Splinderovy Mlyn or Harrachov, you have high speed quads, you arent treated as ****, and theres at least a decorum of civility there. Though czechs apprently believe straightlining down a mountaing doing 100kmh is considered 'good skiing'.

Honestly theres very few places that have 'good skiing', Zakopane sucks, Korbielow sucks, I was in Chopok in Slovakia and liked it, never had a problem at any place in the Czech Rep, but nonetheless I say forget all of this and go to the Alps.

Is it? We was there for a week last week, and all was fine. Generally we go on Kopa as its maintained quite well and basically no waiting time for ski lift. Though i must say Kopa was a painful start for me, but it has paid off!

Unfortunately my farther in-law wont let me drive to the mountains (in his car), so we get a bus straight to Karpacz, which doesn't take to long!

Does anyone have some tips for using surface lifts on a snowboard? on skis there easy but on my board its tuff for me, i tried having my right foot in its binding and my left foot between the bindings is that the correct method? (it was hard to keep balanced)

Just back from Spidleruv Mlyn (Czech Republic) and i dont think i'll be going there again, its a good resort but man you have to walk everywhere. Some good board parks some real scary ass kickers over Sviaty Petr but even so im done with boarding here its Alps or nothing for a holiday in the future. Its definently not a snowboarding resort, and the cues jeeeeezus.

Only been to Karpacz in the summer but i hear its crap, Zieleniec has great potential for the snowparks but as usual its just not maintained. Good beginners resort only, we went there last week bought the most expensive ski pass and it didnt work on some of the lifts WTF, theres opposing companies owning different ski lifts, never known that before. totally nuts. No English any where and no one speaks it either just to add to the confusion.

Yeh if its a T bar stick one side of it in your inside thigh by the nut sack, if its a button lift just put it between your legs. Keep straight one foot in binding only, its easier with two feet in bindings but some lifties dont allow that.

Ajb: What do you ride? Its a Burton T6 162 cm. i dropped the freestyle board for something more stable it was like switching from ford to mercedes. Cuts through ice like it wasnt even there.
