Getting from Krakow to Warsaw

Merged: Warsaw-Krakow-Warsaw transport advice?

I've got my ticket to this Friday's Sacrum Profanum concert in Krakow, and I'm weighing up my transport options:

a) Drive: 4 hours each way, minimum, in Friday evening traffic. Exhausting and expensive, considering the fuel economy of my car. But it means I can return whatever time I like

b) Train: quick, although the concert is nowhere near the train station. But I can relax, not have to concentrate on the trip, and it's cheaper. But there's no return train after the gig; first train leaves Krakow Glowny at 5:30am, so I'd have to occupy myself for those hours or try and sleep at the train station (not worth finding a hotel just for three-four hours.)

Are there any other options here that I'm missing? Night buses? I'd hitch-hike, but I don't fancy my chances at 1am...

Didn't mention; I plan to make use of my Saturday, so I don't want to stay in Krakow a minute longer than I have to. It's just a balance of how-soon-can-I-leave to how-exhausted-will-it-make-me.

I've only used Polish buses for going from Krakow to Krynice in the winter; that was a painfully slow journey. Does anyone have any good experiences they can relate on intercity bussing?

Getting to Krakow from Warsaw Airport

I am traveling to Krakow in December and would like to know the easiest and quickest way to get to Krakow from Warsaw airport. Is it best to take a train from Warsaw central station or is there a better way directly from the airport to Krakow?

If you want to visit mosques, it might be a bit more interesting to visit Tatar mosques in the countryside. They're Sunni, and they're probably much different than what you're used to.

The best way to travel from Krakow to Warsaw is by train, you can book cheap tickets in advance its around 50 PLN each way ( 11-12 UK Pounds). Once you arrive in Warsaw, you walk to rondo de Gaule and take the 118 bus to Wilanow, the mosque is two stops before the terminus. I am sure you have the address.

Merged: Public transportation - is it easy to get around (specifically Warsaw <-> Krakow)?

Hey guys!

So I'll be in Warsaw soon for school and was wondering how the public transportation is. I know driving is brutal.

What's the best way to get to Krakow from Warsaw and back? Train or bus? And how often do they come. I'll be going from Warsaw

to Krakow often (maybe every or every other weekend) so I'm kind of curious. Also, are there any express trains to get to Krakow and if so, how much

are the fairs?

Thanks in advance.

The Warsaw to Krakow intercity train is great and they run often- I think like 3 times a day- maybe more. The fairs I am not sure of- I want to say close to 80 pln but I could be wrong. There is also first class and second class prices- second class has two extra people in the section.

You can find out the fare for a given train on the PKP website - pkp.pl It takes between 2.5-3.5hrs.

Public transport in Warsaw is pretty good. It is better to stick to trams where possible as the buses often get caught in traffic. Driving is not that bad when you get used to it but the traffic jams are getting worse and worse.

There's an excellent website for planning journeys (all in English too) warszawa.jakdojade.pl/?forcebrowser=true&locale=en

IC/TLK/Express trains (journey time basically the same, comfort could differ) run about every 30/40 minutes. Keep in mind that because of track maintenance works, journey time is approx 1,5 hour longer as on the schedule. It still beats any car/bus travel though.

You can buy tickets online here: bilet.intercity.pl/irez

You need to register and so on but it's all in English. Yes, I do use it myself.

This coach is new and a very comfortable way to travel. It has plugs to connect a laptop to under each seat and a wifi connection. If you book well in advance you can travel for as little as 1zl! :)

Hi everybody!

I'm travelling through Poland and want to go from Warsaw to Krakow but not sure yet about the exact date.
Can I come to railway station and buy tickets right before the trip or should book in advance?

Thanx!

I'd just like to say that if you check all the train times, they have different prices, sometimes half as much as regular, so if it doesn't matter what time you need to leave check all of the times.

It is often worth having a look at the LOT website, sometimes plane tickets are not much higher as these for the Intercity. And you from airport to airport directly.

Trainwise, go for TLK, cheaper as Intercity.

LOT is actually a good suggestion - their prices can seem unpredictable but there are occasional bargains on domestic routes. As for TLK- it's cheap however I'm fond of intercity, especially the dining car.

I have a general rule with TLK's - try and only travel on routes with a dining bar attached. I was one on a dreadfully packed TLK from Warsaw to Poznan, but the dining bar was...empty.

plane in theory is faster, but need to commute to the airport, especially in Kraków. Balice airport ain't that close to the city
