Maybe the point is that a lot of countries ended up sending troops over there

- They wouldn't have done it had it not been for America. My country's 'treps' are there just as well, but the vast majority of Poles have been against it since the very beginning, when the American-a$$-licking communist government of Kwasniewski send our troops out there.

when their government decided to go to war, most of the country was all for it... but strangely enough many americans seem to have forotten this

it was the ease and speed at which americans were convinced, and their anger at anyone who dared to disagree with them on the matter, that has lead to the expression stoopid americans coz, lets face it, they fell for it hook line and sinker

You actually thought about your reply rather than just asking a bunch of questions!

- Nothing wrong about asking questions; in fact it's right to ask them, it's wrong not to ask them. Asking questions doesn't mean one doesn't think, but the very opposite - at least in my case. Wouldn't you think so, darlin'?

Except that, often, instead of a thoughtful reply, you only ask more questions. In that way you avoid making a direct comment. Sometimes I want to know what YOU think. I already know what I think I can ask myself questions....that's part of my "put myself in someone else's shoes" process.

- I only ask questions when a person speaks unclearly or makes a claim without any supporting evidence; I ask questions then in order to get to know what the person means or the evidence. How can I make a 'meaningful reply' when I don't understand the meaning of a person's statement?

Often it appears eventually she doesn't mean anything meaningful, alas....

- In your case - mostly yes, as you are, without any doubt, an intelligent lady.

A Polish mate of mine told me that Donald Tusk will never be taken seriously or succeed in the USA because the word 'Tusk' is American prison slang for an inmate who is rather keen on sodomizing other prisoners! Can anyone vouch for this meaning of the word?

SINCE THIS FORUM IS POLITICALLY CORRECT AND AUTOMATICALLY CENSORS THE WORD ********, I will respond this way: This is droppings from a male cow's ass...the correct slang would just be 'faggot'.

Just count yourselves lucky that Pan A. Lepper is not your current president. Most Americans are not that clever to distinguish between 1 or 2 'p's!
Seriously, why would we care a damn about what they (English-speakers) think about our names? If we follow their set of mind obsequiously, then all what should be precious to us turn into ridicule instantly. For example, In Viet Nam, the most popular name is 'DUNG" which for men means 'BRAVERY" while for girls means 'BEAUTIFUL'. Well, everyone here knows that its English meaning is crap (ahem, literally). That has resulted in a conscious omission of this name from Viet Nam people who live in America and Australia. To be even more absurd, Viet Nam students who possess this rather unfortunate name frequently drop it in favour of their middle name when they travel abroad for study. Of course, only the unlucky post of prime minister prevents Ngai NGUYEN TAN DUNG from dropping it too when he met Mr Bush in September. Just imagine the finest headline the the history of the Washington Post:
"Bush having state lunch with dung today in the White House"

To conclude, we mustn't give a damn!

I like this Dung posting. Imagine if Bush had to meet Dick Spring and they argued, what a headline that'd make. Dick Spring launches into Bush!! Dick Spring was an Irish politician for all those out there who don't know. Or even Tusk repeatedly asking Bush for sth, Bush gets probed by Tusk!! Hehehe

I just noticed that admin has changed the title of my thread and moved it into the politics section, good grief folks, 'Wot were you thinkin'?. It does now sound idiotically 'serious', like I really believe that Tusk won't succeed because of his name! It was just having a little fun with name/meaning things! Apologies to anyone who concluded I was attempting to undermine the Polish Govts standing in the US.
For some reason it reminded me of a couple of my fave real names, the Philipino priest Cardinal Sin was a good one and I also liked the Glaswegian leader of the Jewish community.... Rabbi Burns! Just like oor national bard Rabbie Burns! Anyone know any other real ones?
