Poles like their status symbols (as do many) and the status symbol of choice is a German engineered vehicle.

I can't comment on the most popular of them but i'm sure someone with more info can.

Skodas are quite popular (some would say too) and have a good reputation as they are part of the VW group, there are tons of Fabias and Octavias on the roads.

Daewoos are also rather popular (in Sl±sk anyhow), i've no idea if they're still being made but i see tons everyday.

The Peugot 307's are also very common as are the Renault Laguna and Megane.
Not too too many citroens though.

I'm surprised I don't see more Hondas and Toyotas but they don't seem to have the pull the german cars do. I am seeing more and more Mitsubishis though, which for some reason i find surprising.

I think Volvo is still regarded quite highly and it does have the exclusivity appeal as well.

American cars in Poland, well aside from Chevies, it's a rich man's (or a well connected one's) world.

Hmm...my uncle there has a Jaguar and a big Mercedes Vito...and his wife has...erm...i think it's a Citroën but i'm not sure.......
In Poland, the cars are quite the same as in France...sometimes even better ;)
There are quite a lot of Mercedes, BMW, Saab, etc.
And it's in Poland i saw for the first time one of my favourite car, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S - porsche.com/france/models/cayenne/cayenne-turbo ......great car ;)

for some reason BMW's have a bad rep in Poland...associated with gangsters and drug dealers. I guess they get stolen more often for that reason..

do you think it's only in Poland? Some BMW drivers gives me the jeepie creepies though! It's like: I'm driving a BM, so I can do whatever I like! (Please note: I am not saying ALL BMW drivers, but definitely some) :(

They like Audi's, VW's BMW's and Mercedes especially. However you tend to see a wide variety on the road anything from old clapped out Polonias (Polands brand), and those tiny Fiat 126's to Range Rover sports big mercs and nice new Audi's.

Never seen an M3 on the road here though there common as muck in the UK.

New cars the most often bought in Poland are:

skoda fabia
toyota yaris
skoda octavia
ford focus
fiat panda
fiat punto
volkswagen passat
opel astra
toyota corolla
opel astra classic

But people here very often buy 2nd hand cars from western Europe.

really glad you wouldn't. :-P

i also didn't ask if you behaved terribly on the road just because you have a BM - and specifically stated not all BM drivers are horrible, but some are. I wanted to know if you were one of the one's who are, but maybe I shouldn't ask, maybe I should just keep thinking you're a nice guy? Maybe you are :P (I am smiling here!)

I have also noticed quite a lot of 4x4's being driven , particularly Toyota RAV4 and Land Cruisers and also Grand Cherokee Jeeps; I have also seen quite a few Hummers and other oversize American off-roaders !
I suppose these are quite popular due to the harsh driving conditions in winter - i expect most drivers in South Poland will be changing to snow tyres ?

As a status symbol, I think German cars and in particular Merc's & BMW's have been the most popular; VW's are seen as a reliable option.

I am sure it's probably the same in Poland , but in my time working in Russia (1997) it was the BMW that was the mafia's preferred make of motor car.

Shall I try to rephrase this: Some BMW drivers (esp ones with huge ones like MX5 - very beautiful btw) drive as if the fact that they drive a BM gives them the right to drive without respect and courtesy for other drivers.

Now this is how i drive as well, so that'll be fine with me.

C, u must be a nice guy, otherwise you would have started acting like some of the trolls we sometimes have around, and we would have ended up angry with one another ;)

Talking about driving - have to go. cya later
