Crow, their are no UN security forces but only UN peacekeepers....... as we all know how slow they are to respond anyways... im sure everybody would support a credible UN force... However much wouldn't get accomplished with the world so divided on how to deal with terrorism..

ultimately, we need Slavic security forces, something as UKPOLBAT, but with participation of all Slavic countries. Last what we need is NATO world policeman

Maybe ultimately, but as of now we don't have the military and economic power to make that possible....

It seems as though Russia is always looking to extend the boarders of Russia. They will not let Ukraine become independent without alot of stomping their feet. Remember, there's oil in them hills that hasn't been tapped in many a day.

Which is why Mr Bush has pushed ur national debt into territory where Jewish brotha's will need to step in and bail him out. Silverstein got a profit from 9/11, he should dip into his coffers.

Just money? Would u give 1000 US Dollars a month to charity? It's not that much. The average in America must be around 30,000 dollars a year

Depends on where you live. Some southern states that's a good salary. Where I live...well, you couldn't on that.

OK lets say USA did not spend the money in Iraq, do you think they would take that money and give it to the US citizens? Nope, just look at the health care system in USA. We used to joke that in order to recieve from the USA we would leave the country and return from another country. Then they would give health care, place to live, money for food, heating. It was not always this way. Remember when my Grandfather came to the USA in 1951, he first had to have a job to support himself and family. Without this you could not come to USA. I think this will change somewhat in the future because we don't think of ourselves as united in our own intrests.

The British NHS changed too but not so drastically. 1948 was Aneurin Bevan's 'from cradle to grave' pledge but much has changed since then. Still, we have many reciprocal agreements with other countries, most notably Poland, which is favourable.

I hear you, in Connecticut we have the highest gas prices due to tax by our State, cigarettes $6.50 per pack and tax's are set by mill rate. Even if you have insurance for health care deductables can sting. I don't like H. Clintons plan to make health care mandatory, how can people that cannot afford food be penilized for not having enough for health care.

As for the missile base, "Yippy" .

Cigarettes $6.50 per pack, that's much cheaper than in Britain. It's around 5 pounds or even 6. $55,000, nah, certain immigrant groups would drag that down to around $40k. In Japan and in Poland they are much cheaper, 6.50 złoty per packet, 1.25 pounds but really around 2.50 or 3, still cheap. Amazingly cheap in Japan given the cost of living over there

Democracy or not, people will always be slaves as long as they don't understand that as Ronald Reagan said "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem." If you ask for government help, you ask for troubles. You invite them to your life, to your home and this guest turning into parasite and have no intention to leave you alone.

The point is that government should not give any money to the people but simply should not take it from those people.

Thank you lesser, I see the truth is out. On the flip side of the coin, without goverment and establishment of laws society would still risk corruption of strong vs. weak. Even in remote tribal society's a structure is formed. This is where the strength of involment from citizens comes into play. We see this with the high turnout of democratic voters vs. republicans. It speaks to the power people hold yet take for granted.

Lesser, never have I seen such a posting with such a good view, then such a bad one. The first part is very true, the govt can be like a leech, sucking ur blood.

The second part, well, sorry, have u ever heard of social security and benefits for under-priveleged people? By giving money to certain groups, these people can raise the profile of the country. I can't believe u said sth as stupid as that!!!!!!

http://rawstory.com/news/afp/Polish_US_talks_on_missile_shield_i_02222 008.html

Talks on Washington's plans for an anti-missile shield in Europe are in deadlock because Poland is unhappy with recent US proposals, a leading Polish newspaper reported Friday.

Warsaw has been seeking help to boost the country's air-defence with either Patriot 3 or THAAD anti-missile systems, as well as a long-term military aid package worth 20 billion dollars, and a bilateral security accord.

Citing anonymous insiders, Gazeta Wyborcza said Warsaw had been disappointed by "arrogant" US proposals made in recent weeks.

This is a done deal, now it's just a matter of cost and finishing touch's. 20 Billion dollars is alot of money and as we know this cost will double or tripple over the years. This was why Poland came to USA in the first place.

I think what one of the big differences is, these days, is that formerly when people were in need, their local church took care of them. Now the government takes from EVERYONE, and doles it out to who IT sees fit. Just another way to increase gov't power, by making people rely on THEM vice their friends family and neighbors like in the old days.

Uh...the churches of the world aren't exactly models of how to behave.

Bad example. Friends and neighbors don't always have the resources either.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with anything....regardless how one's local church behaves, it is composed of his own friends, neighbors, family and friends, and knows the local area and situation better. It's also a good way to weed out many of the "scammers" that prey on government programs at the expense of the taxpayers.
This was not an "example". This is how it really was done, and surprisingly, it worked pretty well. Not saying it should be the ONLY thing, but I disagree with the government making mandatory (and how convenient-IT gets to divvy out the funds after TAKING them from you, me, all of us...)what people have traditionally done on a voluntary basis. Red Cross ring a bell?
There are hundreds of thousands of churches and local charities out there, but somehow this same government people like to call incompetent....is somehow going to be better at spending your money? Come on. I work for the government in a round about way, and even I know better than this.

In order to look at this from a "must have" point of view, it is what any independent country must have to be truly independent. If we look at what took place with Russia to get this base, and then ask if Poland would have been able to achive this alone, without the USA? Well, we all know the answer. How church's came into this I don't know.

Head of PM's office assures negotiations with US not threatened

22.02.2008

Sławomir Nowak, head of PM Tusk’s political office, stated that the US anti-missile shield negotiations remain on course.

Contrary to press allegations, Sławomir Nowak, head of PM Tusk’s political office, stated that the talks with the United States regarding the deployment of the anti-missile shield elements in Poland remain on course.

The last consultations on the matter prior to the prime minister’s visit to Washington planned for today have been cancelled. Nowak, however, claimed that a special US military commission scheduled for next week will fly to Poland to discuss the modernisation of Polish armed forces.

“The purpose of talks and negotiations with our American friends is to reach a satisfactory – maybe not compromise - rather an agreement beneficial to both sides, and thus regular talks are taking place. There is no need to panic,” he said.

Why approach it from that loaded angle? Let's all counter that partisan point of view with an objective viewpoint:
the fact that it IS a base from the USA which Russia has caused the stir. Not only that but it has thus far appeared to be AMERICAN interests and initiative behind the base much more so than Polish.

Well said Foreigner4, Poland wouldn't have conjured up such a scheme on their own initiative, nor asked for one

It doesn't reaaly matter if the shield was Americas initiative or Polands, the point is the shield will weaken Russia's position... A weaker Russia is in Poland's interest.... Russia and Poland are in a competition to shape eastern Europe... with a weak Russia, Polands chances of success in spreading democracy, Nato and EU in eastern Europe will increase.... The shield is ingenious, first besides having a psychological effect on Russia, with it comes upgraded air defenses and a closer relationship with the only Superpower... No matter what your hate for America, its always good to have them on your side...

Any opposing view is based on emotion rather then logic...
