there are good and bad language schools in London and most of them will help you with accommodation

here are some reputable schools in london - i have chosen them because they are well know for their teacher training courses which tends to mean that their teachers are pretty good

Brighton is nice.. its a seaside town that is only 1 hour by train from London. It has a nice vibe, there are lots of English schools there and its a popular place for foreign students. My advice would be to go in the Summer.. maybe July/August if possible as you could take advantage of the best weather, although April/May should still be OK, just not beach weather. Sorry, I dont know the names of the language schools, but you can easily find out through a google search.

Here one in my town, which is much cheaper to live in than London.

anglolang.com

They'll sort accommodation out for you, and from those who I have known who have been to Anglo-lang, they've been quite happy with the families they've been lodged with. No idea on the costs though, sorry.

Hope that helps.

(my town = Scarborough, on the North Yorkshire coast, about 3 hours from London by train, but with access to many other northern UK cities in a lot less time. York is only about 45 mins away, Leeds 1 hour, Manchester 2 hours)

London is full of over priced scam schools ... drop me a line, to discuss what you are looking for.

Typically something with British Council accreditation is generally above board.

Learning English in London is always going to be overpriced, that's just how it is.

Have you thought about doing a language exchange with someone who wants to learn Polish, while being willing to teach you English at the same time. It would be much easier on you financially.

Although if you just want to be taught, then go for a private tutor having at least a CELTA approved qualification. You won't get the same learning experience from group classes. Make sure you also ask for references in regards to the teacher!

Merged: ENGLISH LESSONS IN LONDON

Hi everyone,

What do you you think about English lessons in London?

We are planning to open a school of English for foreign learners in Ealing Broadway. We would be be opened from Monday to Sunday and also evenings.

We are planning to offer the following services:
- On to One on-line lessons
- On-line seminars (webinars)
- In class lessons
- On to one in class lessons

Our packages and prices will very flexible and we will not have a minimum of ours that you have to attend per week.

Would you be interested?

Thanks

Our packages and prices will very flexible

They'll have to be - the competition is huge.

We would be be opened

a minimum of ours

On to One

You'll find that some of the competition are very goodnot only at teaching but also at using English without making such basic errors.

and we will not have a minimum of ours that you have to attend per week.

Given that you'll presumably be charging your customers I'm pleased to hear that. But...

we will not have a minimum of ours that you have to attend per week.

You'll find that the Home Office may have other ideas if you have (and you would have) non-EU customers.

I used to live in Ealing. There are at least 2 schools one of which is British Council accredited.

There is also a Japanese school in Ealing Common which teaches English.

In London prices can get very cheap. I taught at a British Council accredited school which would teach practise classes for as little as £1.50 per hour ( with CELTA trainee teachers). That was in Queensway... a 15 minute journey away. Please check out your local competition and make sure your staff are qualified.

The living standard for me as an English teacher in Krakow is far better than as an English teacher in London.

Keep that in mind.

Best,

G

Thank you so much jon357 for your answer and for pointing out my typing mistakes. I do not think I have ever said I would be the one teaching English, have I? On top of that I think it looks pretty clear that they are typing mistakes and not spelling mistakes. Nonetheless I like your answer as you made me aware of things that I did not take in consideration (for instance I did not think about the home office issue), but you may have answered nicely without the necessity of pointing out my mistakes. I hope that when you will make a mistake (and we all do), you will find someone as nice as you who will answer you the same way.

Thank you so much for your answer GabiDaHun

jon357: goodnot

Almost forgot jon357, isn't that a mistake? I think that also your English is not that good. Maybe you should come to me and I will give you some lessons.

On top of that I think it looks pretty clear that they are typing mistakes and not spelling mistakes.

Whether they are or not, the point is that people reading your thread will judge on what they are reading, and you are advertising English lessons.

I really don't mean to sound harsh, but first impressions count and if the standard of English, for whatever reason looks less than perfect, then you are not going to attract new business.

Having said that, I wish you luck :)

I do not think I have ever said I would be the one teaching English, have I?

A relief.

you made me aware of things that I did not take in consideration (for instance I did not think about the home office issue)

20 hours a week if you want non-EU people to pay - and it has to be real - they do check that your registers reflect the attendance.

Almost forgot jon357, isn't that a mistake?

No. It's a typo.

I think that also your English is not that good.

It's perfect - as your brochure should be. The cynicism however set in a while ago.

Maybe you should come to me and I will give you some lessons.

Not I hope in business.

Seriously, many language schools in London (fortunately) closed after the last change in legislation - those that remain tend to have plenty of capital behind them. Sorry to **** on your chips, however 15 years ago, opening a new language school was a good idea. Now, only the bigger ones survive. Even some of those aren't wonderful, but fortunately the power of the internet (especially review sites in the countries paying customers come from) is sinking the last of the skanky ones, one by one. Immigration sweeps by the Home Office are sorting the rest.

Quite a few schools were busted for this, weren't they?

Now, if someone opened a language school in Poland with the specific purpose of getting people into the Schengen zone...
