Unemployed Poles in Ireland : a crash course in milking the system

here's the full story.
Irish Independent today had a terrible article about a Polish woman called "Magda"

alturl.com/fafd2

It was found out by some Internet posters that the people who wrote it did a very hacked job of translating it.
bit.ly/zk7hID

The so-called journalists were copying an article that appeared in a Polish newspaper.

Pole in Ireland. I love you, unemployment

Magda: - How do I live? Wonderful. I develop, I breathe.

Kamil: - I feel no crisis. The State repay the loan for me. For half a year I saved on a car yet.

Robert: - For 8 euros per hour I am not moving out of the house.

The sound of the ocean

It's six o'clock in the morning, and we were in complete darkness marching through the golf course.

I came to Ireland to see how the lives of Poles who had lost their jobs. I thought that the unemployed man, at least do not have to pluck out of bed in the morning. None of that.

Magda (36 years, of which almost two on the dole in Ireland): - The day I start is always the same: I go to the beach to see the sunrise. This charge me for the rest of the day. I used to sleep until noon, now I won't waste my life.

The nearest beach is five minutes walk. As she was looking the house, it was one condition: that it could hear the ocean from the windows ...

Now the Polish Ambassador to Ireland has become involved.

Shame on the Irish Independent, hopefully tomorrow it'll be made to print a complete apology and retraction.

According to Deutsche Welle Poles work 3rd longest hours

That should more accurately read "in Poland, people work the 3rd longest hours". A significant number of Poles are working elsewhere in the Union and work according to the norms in those countries.

lol it is a joke of a paper.

Most of its circulated copies are freebies dished out to hotels, bars, hospitals, universities etc. etc.

It is millions in debt

I have read all the reader's comments (over 600 of them) on this article in Independent and I have to say I am surprised.I expected tons of anti Polish comments from Irish and sure there was few but a majority of these people seem to be fair minded.Kind of makes me feel bad as I could fly Aer Lingus via Dublin but because of my personal prejudice against Irish (meaning I didn't want to let them make a penny of my money as I thought of them as Polish haters) I booked with Air Canada for the same money but with 2 stops(Toronto and Munich) instead of just one (Dublin). And I don't even like Canadians.

+1, long regarded it as a total rag. It's editor thinks he is running OK magazine. A paper for the FF populist gobshites.

Maybe you should have inquired about group bookings? Might have worked out cheaper.

Don't blame them... they are like rats in exile flooding into the place with least resistance.. ie UK and now Germany when they lift the workers ban.

It's editor thinks he is running OK magazine.

Its editor should print a front page article tomorrow with factual information regarding the number of poles in receipt of social welfare in Ireland.

There are over 7,000 Polish families in receipt of rent allowance. Fact.

There are circa 40,000 in receipt of welfare each week. Fact.

Fifteen million is sent back to Poland each year in the form of child benefit. Fact.

Oh, and a stipend for social welfare is that you have to be actively jobhunting and I was under the impression the checked up on this.

“The unemployment benefit is there for you to have the time to re-think your life. I’ve discovered that I don’t want to work for somebody else anymore. I like to do things my way.”

"Magda has almost half a year to go to qualify for the back to work allowance scheme. In the meantime she’s going to get a driver’s licence, do up a businessplan, an accountancy course and one in marketing (all of them organised by the social welfare office). "

“Before I would always comfort eat: to deal with stress, with the problems with my boss. Now I’m not in a hurry anywhere, I don’t have to do anything. I live frugally, but I am true to myself.”

Cut the benefit and deport.

thejournal.ie/waitress-who-describes-wonderful-life-on-dole-told-go-back-to-poland-343061-Feb2012/

the next exciting update, Labour senator Jimmy Harte hits back

you tell 'em Jimmy, I will hold your jacket as you give 'em all a good dressing down

Jimmy would appear to be an anti-dole crusader

irishcentral.com/news/Bosnian-family-earning-over-121000-on-welfare-in-Ireland-130743648.html

a Bosnian family earned or should I say blagged 90,000 euros over the course of a year in Dublin.

Surely xenophobic hatred of the worst kind by Jimmy Harte?

Do Irish senators have immunity from prosecution? He must surely know that joining the EU means giving up any control over European migration.

Don't worry Senator Harte , increasing EU integration will mean your hatred will become ever more irrelevant.
OP hythorn 3 | 580

since when was Bosnia in the EU?

Jimmy is clearly against anyone getting massive dole payments irrespective of nationality

''Labour Party Senator Jimmy Harte has called for a cap on the amount of social welfare payments a family can receive. Harte received the information about this family from the Department of Social Protection officials. He says that $68,000 (€50,000) is more than enough for one family per year.

Harte said "The family are doing nothing illegal but the system is wrong when a couple are able to receive €90,000 [$121,000] per year for doing nothing. I don't think this sort of payment is acceptable in the good times, never mind the bad times we find ourselves in now.''

besides which the first duty of any government is to look after its own people

as for the newspaper headlines, the best one I saw was 'Living the Dole-ca Vita'

I just thought of a good one

wtf is this?We are the laughing stock of Europe. Thick Paddies. Only brain dead Ireland and its brain dead open border drones would import close to 15% of its population in 2 years,to build houses to import moreimmigrants

The sound of the ocean
It's six o'clock in the morning and we're walking in complete darkness through a golf course.

I travelled to Ireland to see what life is like for Polish people who've lost their jobs. I thought that when you're unemployed at least you don't have to jump out of bed so early in the morning, but no such luck.

Magda (36 years old, almost 2 years on unemployment benefits in Ireland): "I always start my days in the same way: I go down to the beach to see the sunrise. It sets me up for the rest of the day. I used to sleep until noon, but now I don't want to waste my life."

(...)

The nerves were getting to her, she had no regrets leaving her job.

You're just jealous that you can't fly to Morocco with her.

It's not the people on the dole that's killing your country, it's the German bankers that bankrupted it.

Haha.

Seanie F, Fingers et al were German?
My nation is spending a lot more than it istaking in. Anyone who is leeching from the exchequer is a problem.

Be they bankers or budding rub-a-dub-dub girls.

Do you think it is financially prudent for a bankrupt country to subsidise foreign moochers, to the extent that they can jet off to the continent?

Whats all this Magda crap about. So What!!
Irish people have been doing this for decades. Poland joined the EU so they have equal rights. There is a need to change the social welfare system 100%.

I'm with Barney on this one.
We need to start jailing Bankers. And then maybe tackle the Dole thing but lets deal with the elephant in the room;and deal with the baby fly later.

Why do I have to share a country with so many illiterate, bog dwelling peasants?

Theres tens of thousands of Magdas in this country. Its one of the reasons why Ireland is foooked.

Taking a view of Irish history which highlights perceived positive aspects of British influence in Ireland, or criticizing Irish nationalist rebellions
Cultural cringe: following British popular culture, while appearing embarrassed by or disdainful of aspects of Irish culture, such as the Irish language, Gaelic games or Irish traditional music

Opposition or indifference to a United Ireland (see Partitionism) or to Irish republicanism.
WESTBRIT
Going by your anger issues you sound like an unemployed castle catholic.
