Hi, my great great grandfather was an Ulaszyn and according to the little I know, he was possibly a Prince of Tartar origins and was married to Zlotnicka, from a very wealthy aristocratic family from Poland - they probabaly lived in Kiev, Ukraine. My grandmother had slanted blue eyes, which is apparently a very Tartar trait. I heard also that the Ulaszyns may have been in the past a hugely wealthy family that lived in what is now Belorussia. That's all I've got, other than the family tree down from the two above - they had five children, one of which was my great grandmother and one son only, who if this was your line would be your ancestor. hope that is of some use..

Hi Balanda

Please private message me.

I'm so pleased you responded to my post. Which country are you from? What was your gg grandfather's christian name?

I'd like to quiz you a bit more. What you have said has confirmed some aspects of my family which were shrouded in myth. The Tatar aspect certainly rings true. I had slanty green eyes as a young child and dad always said we were descended from the khans.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info, but I know it's not Russian. It is true though that we lived in what's now the Ukraine. Why did you think it was Russian?

You can't. You're only a guest and guests can't do that.

You may be surprised, but Ułaszyn is a name of patronymic origin derived from the Chrisitan name Błażej (Blaise), whose Ukrainian forms is either Włas or Ułas. So it originated simply to identify someone as "Blaise's boy".
