With summer fast approaching people are starting to think about a well deserved holiday and this year more people will be choosing Poland as their getaway destination than ever before.

As Poland’s premier beach resort, Sopot is high on the list of must-go destinations for many Poles and international visitors and during the summer months is when Sopot is at its best.

With miles of golden sands and nightlife to rival Europe’s best, the small city, nestled between the verdant woods of the TriCity Landscape Park and the calming waters of the Bay of Gdansk, has a deserving reputation for charming visitors with its unique approach to Polish hospitality!

Sopot is experiencing continuous development and this summer looks set to offer the visitor more choice than ever before with a wealth of new bars, restaurants, clubs and shops to enjoy. To help you make the most of your visit to Sopot this summer, we are creating a thread to highlight the best the city has to offer.

The thread will be hosted by mC glennSKii, an American ex-pat who has been resident in Sopot for over a decade and is well established in Poland’s musical scene. mC glennSKii will be gigging all over Poland this summer, as a solo artist and with his band “theGlennSKiis.com”, as well as hosting weekly events in some of Sopot’s top venues.

Thank you for the heads-up szkotja - there is a gap between the calen & dar in the above link.

This is the correct one for copy paste purposes:

Please let us know if there is specific information you would like and we will try to make a post on it.

Look forward to seeing you in Sopot!

Hey WUIS, can you recommend a decent place to stay while in Sopot? The festival on the 30th looks like it could be quite fun!

hello all, i am glennSKii, a Sopot resident and musician. i am helping Peter with "What's up in Sopot". i will be posting from time to time in addition to writing the "What's up in Sopot" posts with Peter. I can Help with accommodation and party/leisure advice to people who are plannning to visit the Tri-Cities. But as far as the Heineken Festival coming up, things are pretty tight already! for those who like the camping option on the grounds near the festival, i would suggest that. it would keep you in the middle of things. i think most stuff in sopot is already pretty much booked for that weekend. and important to note that the festival grounds is way around the corner on the opposite side of the port in north Gdynia. its the area called "Babie Doly". If you wantr to be away from the grounds.. you might look for lodging in Rewa, Puck, Gdynia. Maybe the Maritime Academy in Gdynia may have room. Gdansk Wrzeszcz is another option.

Sopot has been a hive of activity since Wednesday 06 June due to the long weekend formed by the Thursday holiday, the start of the season, fantastic weather and the Top Trendy festival. With start of the season the week saw the opening of an exciting new club – La La La in Sopot – Wyścigi close to Faktoria. If the website is anything to go by this is going to be one funky place – it also looks like it might be Sopot’s first no-smoking venue.

Klub La La La – lalala.lu

Factoria - faktoria.net

Klub Papryka has show so far this month that it is now one of the premier clubs in north Poland and THE main 3-City club for live music. Pretty much every night of the week sees an event at the club and the Live Wednesday (Żywe Środy) hosted by our own glennSKii has become one of the city’s top nights

klubpapryka.pl

Wednesday was not quite such a great day in Gdynia where one the premier clubbing venue Mandragora closed with no plans to re-open for the summer season. With it’s future uncertain, the closure of this club leave a sizable gap in Gdynia’s nightlife scene and will result in more people coming down to Sopot to party over the summer.

Where to stay

Finding accommodation in Sopot can be a task during peak season as many visitors book places to stay earlier in the year – some even make reservations the summer before.

But if you are planning to visit this summer, and haven’t made arrangements, don’t worry as something will normally turn up when you arrive. If coming by train the tourist information by Sopot train station is a great place to start your search as they normally have a list of the latest vacancies.

Here are a few places that you might like to try.

Apartments

For people travelling with children or in small groups, one of the long popular options for accommodation in Sopot has been renting an apartment for the duration of the stay.

pinokio.sopot.pl

A well presented apartment in a traditional turn of the century Sopot villa. The apartment has been recently renovated and has all the mod cons that you would expect. The owners of this apartment also have a restaurant of the same name on Monte Cassino.

nocleg-sopot.pl

Apartment Good Mood offers a high standard of accommodation and a good location. Set just off the top of Monte Cassino this is a place to stay if you want to be close to the train station and in the heart of everything.

Budget accommodation

Sopot has a tradition of old ladies waiting by the train station offering rooms in their apartment as people get off the train. There are also a number of budget pensions and hotels in the city which vary greatly in cleanliness and comfort.

hotelbursztyn.pl

Former villas of communist leaders this is a great place to stay if you are looking for an authentic and austere Soviet era experience. Near to the water front, this hotel offers visitors a reasonable location and is fine if you are not looking for luxury.

Mokwy.com

A guestroom complex rumoured to be run by members of the forum, Mokwy is set around a quiet courtyard close to the beach and Monte Cassino. The atmosphere appeals to the young hip crowd that visit Sopot in the summer but is also child friendly and caters to families. Free LAN connection and traditional Polish breakfast.

hotel-eden.pl

Considered on of Sopot’s oldest hotel, the sense of history this hotel offers is not lost on its interior. Again, close to the waterfront, this is a popular hotel and is normally booked up early but worth giving a try.

Mid-range

Mid range accommodation in Sopot varies considerably and some of the hotels are different from budget only by price. Appealing to a wide range of local and overseas visitors, mid-range accommodation is often among the first to be fully booked.

marea.sopot.pl

A boutique hotel set close to the sea front with a reputation for friendliness and hospitality. This hotel is extremely popular and the better rooms with views are reserved from ages ago. Rooms located further up the building often have windows in the roof.

apartamenty.gda.pl

A series of contemporary studio apartments with random art prints and funky furniture, this is a great place to stay if you are considering making your visit to Sopot a romantic one. The rooms are well furnished and offer self catering facilities if you cant face the short walk to Sopot’s restaurants.

Top end

For those without budget constraints, after recent refurbishment of its larger hotels, Sopot is once again able to offer top end accommodation to rival the rest of Poland.

The Grand

Probably Sopot’s best known hotel, The Grand has undergone a recent refurb and now offers guests individually designed rooms with flat screen TVs and some of the best views of the famous pier. The Grand has all the extras you would expect from a hotel of its standing, and a price tag to go with it.

hotelrezydent.pl

With marble floors, chandeliers and rooms decorated in tasteful floral patterns, the interior of this hotel matches its grandiose art-nouveau exterier. Located at the top of Monte Cassino, the newly finished Apartment Sopocki is one of the finest in the region.

Sopot has accommodation options to cater for all budgets but regardless of how much you want to pay, the advice is to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Podiazd Street

Often neglected by visitors to Sopot, Podiazd Street is the S-shaped road running from Hotel Rezident under the rail track and up to the main road joining Gdansk and Gdynia.

This street is a strange phenomenon in Sopot; it is right in the centre of town but doesn’t attract the attention of night-lifers nor the students who walk down from upper Sopot to party in the bars and clubs of Monte Cassino. But the road has its share of bars, clubs and restaurants that manage to stay open and a new place has even opened there recently.

Most of the venues on Podziad are on the right-hand-side as you walk up from the station. One place worth a visit is the Vodka Bar – a great place to start the evening if you are with a group of friends or to grab a last drink as you stumble home. One of the more established bars is Columb 2000, a bar that has some how hung on through thick and thin and is a favourite with the immediate locals.

If you’re feeling hungry and want to try a place off the main drag then ‘Wieloryb’ is a typical Polish bar where you can meet more locals and enjoy a traditional polish meal. At the top of the road is ‘Corner’, one of Sopot’s few 24 hour eateries serving a selection of pizza, gyros, salads and other dishes.

WhatsupinSopot,

Great advice but I wouldn't describe Wieloryb as a "typical Polish bar". The bar looks like a Jacques Cousteau dream after he's tripped on some absinthe ! One of the most eccentric bars I've ever stepped foot in. I instantly fell in love with the wacky decor.
