Something must be wrong with me. I actually enjoyed aphrodisiac's video in post 843.

that is so funny, I just noticed that:D.

your last post is something I am very familiar with.

the veggie shop rent near my place is: 5000 PLN and it is not even central location- that is NOT Warsaw.

Not only that- people don't seem to do business plans or research their market- they don't know what the hell they are doing- but they want to open a shop.

some do and some don't, but I really don't know the statistics, not sure if they are available at all. By the looks of it a lot of people don't.

My husband is in commercial real estate and manages a few buildings in Warsaw.

that just sounds like somebody who has too much cash and nothing to loose:(

It isn't just this type, it is also small shops. Poor locations, bad pricing- very bad service. What I have learned by running my shop in a year is that word of mouth is important.

the same here. Congratulation on the business venture. It imagine it must be harder for a foreigner to make it.

anyway...rant over. This is something I am quite passionate about- there are so many shops and services in this country that are open one day and closed the next- all from poor planning.

it wasn't a rant, it was a post with a lot of interesting information. I am just stunned that the rent in Szczecin is comparable to Warsaw one. I have been on a lookout for a place to rent for some time.

Oh yes. It's great fun to watch what people open - then they make such basic mistakes such as not selling tram tickets.

why would be a great watch? I am guessing poor business practices are annoying to many people. There was a KIOSK across from my place, but it is gone now and I am happy about it, because the woman was horrible. The place was so packed with stuff, that it was difficult to enter lol.

There is a light at the end of tunnel though. Another KIOSK changed hands and I cannot imagine a nicer and very professional service. It is only a KIOSK, but the new owners are great. They know they are new in the area and they are trying really hard, although they don't have a competition.

can I ask you what you want to do- if you don't want to say, please send me a message. I have a client in Szczecin and I am sure she would rather buy from you than paying the postage of my stuff.

I cracked up laughing and left.

Moscow, ca. 1996. Hungry and tired of fish with dill I spy a modern-looking fast food place. Above the counter they have the usual meal deals illustrated by back-lit photos. I ask for number one and the lady starts telling me something I don't understand. After a while she calls her colleague from behind the scenes. This lady has obviously been coached by her boss in a very useful English phrase, which she no doubt has to say many times every day. She clears her throat, gestures towards the display photos and says, "Is only for beautiful; is only for beautiful."

Then I saw the real menu and chose fish with dill.

it cost too much to change the display every time the menu changes

Canadians are happy to air their feet as much as possible

:) we are i personally own 10 pairs of flip flops and will wear them no matter the weather as long as there isn't snow on the ground. As far as people not greeting you daily it depends where you are in canada...it is a huge country with so many different socities within it if you lived in a large city i can agree the pace is much faster and people are too busy to bother with social niceties. I grew up in a small town everyone stopped to say hello and chat, if you ever go back to canada even for a visit i will recommend the east coast particularly newfoundland and nova scotia some of the kindest people you will ever meet and never ever ever in a hurry even when they are plus the scenery is the most beautiful there than anywhere else in the country.

What did you understand by that?

The owner had bought the display from somewhere and put it up over the counter to make the place look pretty. In fact, the restaurant just served the usual awful Russian food. "Is only for beautiful" could be back translated as "This display is just to make the place look pretty. Do you want borsch or fish with dill?"

"Is only for beautiful; is only for beautiful."

:)

You can have anything you want so long as it's borsch or fish with dill.

And while you were eating your fish dill and looking at the picture of the nice food, could you pretend you were eating something else? hahaha

could you pretend you were eating something else?

To tell the truth, I think I went to a Mac Shack, where Russians were still filming each other eating (the days of having wedding receptions there were, I think, over by then).

Are the sexes treated differently here than in Canada?

By whom? Do you have gender roles in mind? Oh, NO;)

It is Sunday and I am not in the mood for heavy stuff;). On the other hand if I don't do it, who will?;)

Yes, I was just wondering.

On the 7th day she rested :)

Zimmy or Southerner...

Yes, I was just wondering.

sure, I can put down some observations.

long week behind:)

Zimmy or Southerner...

well, we have read them, didn't we? As for Southern - I came to conclusion that it is a standard in Greece. Zimmy seems to have vented all the hatred. So PF is good for something:D

That's a bit like saying someone who goes to a psychiatrist is better...
they are never better,
otherwise psychiatrists would be out of a job,
they can only continue going to sessions,
in this case PF sessions :)

A little bit of Polish poetry for adults: Tuwim. This is how I feel lately in Poland;).

but then I find this and it brings smile to my face;D

he was indeed. Regardless of vulgarism in his poetry, not many things have changed here since his time, or we both represent the same sensitivity;).

Are you fed up aphro?

sometimes I am. The negativity in Poland is getting to me and it boils down to often small things.

What are they negative about?
In my day it was obvious: the government was the source of all the problems :)

I get what she is talking about. Poles are generally a negative bunch. Everything is bad...I had a Polish teacher tell me this is part of the culture.

Toxic thinking like this can take its tole on people.

yep
I was raised in a household where both parents were from Poland.
You can imagine the fun we had in my house.
Between mom's cynical attitude towards everything and everybody and my father's "don't trust anybody" life with those two was anything but a bowl of cherries. lol

I'm just curious as to what the natives are kwetching about now (in the era of democracy and free elections)?

What are they negative about?

as pip said: people in general. I should not get into details, but I will. I am running to households within a 150 km distance. Mine and my father's. I can see how people are waiting for me to give in. A couple of winters ago (the winter was heavy) I was the first one at my father's town to shovel the snow:). On top of that I prepared the whole x-mas. Tip top- it was fun and. One of the neighbours said: wow, you can you everything, instead of asking me if I need help. It was said not in admiration, but in envy. Yes, I can do everything. Most people can and I don't see it as a big deal. The other day (my father lives in the building with a few apartments) another neighbours asked me to clean the stairs, although I don't live there. So according to her I have to travel 150 km to clean the stairs she uses the most. This is just an example. I would not clean the stairs, because they have a co-op and there is more then enough money to hire a cleaner. I also don't feel like doing it and she is on my black list now:D.

People in Poland don't like mighty people in general. I see a problem and I find a solution. I don't like wasting my time on things.

So now I make jams and that probably pisses them off lol. Apart from that I made my own web page and I am running 3 blogs on various interests. I got rid of an abusive guy in my building who was mistreating his dog and possibly his partner, although it took me 3 months. Check.

There are other things, but I am not gonna write about them.

I can relate to that. My father gets on my nerves, because I constantly come up with ideas of improving things. lol. On the other hand when I see somebody succeed I am very happy for them, because I know it takes a lot of work and determination. My sister doesn't trust anybody and thinks that everybody is trying to get her including me, especially when I am trying to be assertive- she just can't take it. She says that I am aggressive. I just tell her how it is. lol

So in general those attitudes are very draining. Fortunately, there are people who are not like that in Poland as well, but it is still a minority I think.

Oh, the other day I had a guy posting on my blog and telling me that I know nothing and how dare I write about my interest if I am not A professional. Polish people are very stuck up on being professional, yet most of them have no idea what it means. That happens very often with Polish men here - he must have been criticized a LOT, when he was young, so now he became the judge. I find it pretty draining at times.

My motto used to be "expect the worst and then its hard to be dissapointed".

It is not my motto, I am just realistic, some thing will work and some will not. I am not that easy to discourage to be honest. However having somebody say something nice for a change would be nice:D.

Poles like to complain, but often this is when it stops. No action to follow.

PS. Rybnik, do you know that according to some studies, there is only 10 % of trust in society in Poland, that is VERY LOW. I was shocked. However, I am not surprised, but that is another topic all together.

the end of rant:D. Thanks all.

Wow, that is pretty low. However, totally understandable knowing the people.
You've had a tough time of it.
You're probably an optimist, as I am, and it's hard on us.
But you got it out of your system and hopefully, you're good for another few months lol

there is only 10 % of trust in society in Poland

Who told you that? I want names? websites?

I don't believe you! :)

Is there a trust index?

On the other hand when I see somebody succeed I am very happy for them, because I know it takes a lot of work and determination.

There is a saying in Ireland that a man will walk miles holding his friend's coffin but wouldn't walk across the street to congratulate him.

So in general those attitudes are very draining. Fortunately, there are people who are not like that in Poland as well

Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by ******** :)

Where I am from people are more open, I miss that.

true. I should complain more often- Poles love it;D

I know that line:D.

thanks for that. The summer is over and I will be ****** off until spring;D.

Fortunately there is quite a lot of sunshine this fall. No rain where I am.
