well, there are a lot of people who will do anything to avoid going to the army and many succeeded in the past, by staying longer at the uni, getting false doctor certificates etc, leaving the country and so on.

same in nearly any country with mandatory military service

it just shows how unpopular it is.

even those that dont go to such lengths and serve ,hate it

i know very view ppl who were conscripted and enjoyed the experience.

unlike a voluntary service - whereby they choose to be there.

I dont see conscription in poland lasting the next 10 years. It hasnt in the UK, france, US, etc.

I was born in Poland but have an Australian citizenship if i go and visit poland for a few months would i be able to return to Australia?

And also does that mean that every polish man that is born in poland has to serve in the army at some point of his live?
If so is there many other countries like that...

if you have dual citizenship like Kanagroo-Polish then i don't believe you have to serve in the army

I travelled to PL 3 times since i turned 18. In 1997 (can't remember the date) they changed the rules for conscripting people in the army. If you are in school or hold another passport in addition to your PL passport then you are exempt from serving. Last summer when i re-entered PL via train from the czech rep. the border guard noticed on my polish passport that i had not yet served in the army. He asked where i lived and when i said canada he said oh ok.
You can travel without any worries!

As a spy?
Tip for avoiding the draft(close the window) , walk up to the biggest, hariest corporal you see and plant a big wet kiss on his lips,if you can, swallow just a teeny bit of 'tasch at the same time, you'll be out in civy streat before you can say "bang bang your dead".

in theory yes but many people successfully avoid it. for the last time dO NOT worry about getting drafted, your family in Oz are probably just scaring you for fun. if you left Poland at a young age there is no way they would have any record of your existence and therefore no place to send you a notice to report for medical screening, which would then establish your eligibility. relax, they dont waste time chasing long-lost Poles like you...
