Want to know more about Poles and Polish soldiers during WWII?

I have just seen this 10minutes film about Poles and Polish military units during the WW2. I know that there are many of people here who are seeking some information concerning Polish history - here, please check this short film. It's really good and worth commenting on...

I have a Question, Where in poland would there be information on how to
get records there about this? we have Draft cards here, but wouldnt there
be something on them there as well? curious.

that was a very good film. to myself it means somkething as my dad fought in ww2 for the polish army, he was a prisoner of war, escaped, fought for the polish army in italy, and ended up in england where, after the war ended he immigrated to canada. do you know of any sites in england or poland where a person might find any records of people who served in these wars.

the other films on this site, are they related to the war. as the site is in polish and i cannot read polish, i used to be able to speak it, but with years of not using it, a person forgets

If you're asking about Polish Units fighting during II WW you should try in London. There is INSTYTUT POLSKI I MUZEUM IM. GEN. SIKORSKIEGO. They have almost all of the archives about it.

I visited the War museum in Warsaw and was truly belittled by the dreadful time Polish people had during the war.

I can only marvel and pay tribute to a most resourceful, brave and resilient people/country in Europe.

I watched the film- in parts give a good if basic excerpts of Polish contribution to the Aliied effort in WW2. I hope though the footage of presumably Polish cavalry attacking German tanks is dismissed outright as fabrication-see my post 146 "Poland has paid 68 million pounds for helping UK in WW2" for clarification.

If your looking for any information about someone who served with the polish forces in WW2, like Micek said the Sikorski Institute in London, England can help. Send them an email with the name of the person you inquire about and if you know where they served for example Polish Second Corps in Italy, it will help them find information faster. Another place yo can try is the Hoover Institute.

This is also a good site about polish soldiers and their position in the war and how the allies position and victories would have been much less decisive with out the polish divisions....

eh?,no it wasnt,both Britain and france had forces in Russia.......
"The solution and working enigma machine were then delivered to England where they were used for decoding Nazi messages throughout the war,"
Wrong,they lasted for around a year untill the germans changed the codes and machines and work had to start all over again on cracking the new codes at bletchley park.

just thought it was quite interesting ..... and figured people on here would like me to share it in this forum.....

I'll qualify my objections to those 3 points;

Only if you take WW2 as starting on sept 1st 1939. In britain and france ww2 started on the third of sept '39 and both nations had forces fighting till the end. Some could say ww2 started much earlier say in Spain in 36 where the main protaganists fought a proxy war,in which case ......ya get the picture :) or didnt start as a true World War until Japan became involved .....

True,but Poland had a much larger force on the east front than britain or france,but not ,technicaly under the same Polish government as the rest ,in the west.(so,maybe for real pedants ....nah,lets not go there :) )
And the last bit,many Poles worked at Bletchley park,it wasnt a Brits only "party" .

Russia is releasing records, as is Ukraine ,Germany and Poland.

There is access to three short Real Audio interviews of Mieczyslaw (Mitch)
Lutczyk by Marcelina Styczynska. Mitch speaks primarily in Polish, and
Marcelina gives brief English summations. (If you don't have Real
Audio, there's a link on the site.)
Mitch talks about being attacked by the Germans and Russians in 1939,
then fighting back as a tank commander in Normandy in 1944.
