I want to ship Vodka back to the USA...What are the laws?

I'm a manufacturer here in Poland and export to the USA...
I want to run a promotion on my website offering a 200ml bottle of Żubrówka with every purchase. I'm not interested in "selling" alcohol and our product is geared primarily towards adults.

I can manage the age verification on my website.

To put it simply, could I send my mother a 200ml bottle of alcohol legally?

Does anyone know where I can get the appropriate information?

The laws very from state to state, but for the most part, I believe it is illegal to ship alcohol.....here is a website that lists all the states and their regulations on importing alcohol. URL It also has a link to the ATF's rules on different types of shipment (personal, etc).

Sounds like a great promotion ! Are you planning this within EU ? Maybe we could test the system by sending me a bottle and I will let you know if I get it.

Is'nt there a problem with Zubrowka in the US because the bison grass acts as a blood thinner?

Also, as my brother and I discovered the hard way, you are not allowed to carry any "rectified spirits" if you are leaving Poland via aircraft.

"Zubrowka" is a specific category of Polish vodka that is made with the extract of bison grass. Bison Grass Vodka features a singular blade of authentic bison grass, grown in the northeastern region of Poland in Bialowieza, know for its prisitne forests and bison herds. It is a premium potato vodka; its bottle has a distinctive grass-green tine that hints at the refreshing and flavorful experience within. Hundreds of years ago, Polish nobility first began infusing their vodka with bison grass in the belief that it provided virility, stamina and power. Over the years, bison grass has been rumored to be an aphrodisiac and a strong influencer of the affairs of the heart.

The myth and mystery surrounding the power of bison grass did have some basis in fact, as the FDA disallowed bison grass as an added ingredient in the late 1970's. Bison Grass Vodka has successfully created the essence of bison grass without including any of the properties that the FDA had found objectionable.


I do not know if they will allow the "real thing" ie the bison grass into the US.

I had read that some indigenous North Americans use the same or a similar bison grass for it's many alleged properties.

That's why I packed mine away in my checked baggage.....I knew I couldn't carry any liquids past security.

Zubrowka can be purchased in the USA. I think there are hazmat permits (flammable liquids) that need to be arranged, but it can be done. Beverages & More in Southern California(also known as BevMo) has Zubrowka usually, but I never managed to try it while I lived there. I'm still trying to find it here in Virginia.
Still, it's definitely not illegal here.

We tried that leaving Wroclaw, they still caught it and pulled us to one side before we boarded the plane and confiscated it.

Really? Hmmm.....that surprises me. For one, I didn't know it was illegal to take with me....I just assumed since I was following the guidelines of the amount to be taken, that I was alright. Oh, well, I got it in and my brothers enjoyed their Vodka.

I think it's because rectified spirits are highly combustable.

When I came back from warsaw in February I had 2 belvedere bottles and 1 Zubrowka in my checked baggage. Not even counting the beer. At the airport I bought 2 bottles of debowa. Which has a piece of oak in it. And another smaller bottle of zubrowka. They sealed those in plastic bags so they can't be tampered with, and I had no problem bringing them in my carry on.

You can buy it in the US, but it's not the real thing (because of the regulations already mentioned in this thread)--it's not nearly as good. I understand that it's generally no problem to bring it back on a plane in luggage that is checked.



I've heard that it can be shipped in the mail... but I doubt that it's legal.

I got away with bringing back 6 ears of Zubrowka 1.5L. They checked my bags and found it but they were more intrested in finding some sort of drugs as i did spend time in Amsterdam. I came in to DFW airport and they just made sure i was 21 and let me god after ripping apart all my stuff.

But i too am almost out and down to my last bottle!!! If anybody has any leads on where to get the exact brand as the picture let me know!!!

I think i found a site that sells the real Zubrowka and have orderd one bottle as a test! Will keep y'all informed!!!

Where does one carry "Rectified Spirits"?

I brougt some back in my check in luggage with no issues....more than once, but I was able to find in the US so no need to bring more back.

I bought "Zubrowka" in California once and was so happy to find it i bought 3 big bottles for a large party. The bottle was beautiful the label was like the polish one, the grass was inside. But when i drank my first sip it was not the same the flavor was too strong like a Vanilla vodka and the color was more greenish than true zubrowka. My thought they use some sort of flavoring at polmos that gets around the legal aspects of shipping true Zubrowka. It was not real Zubrowka though I am certain, close but not the real stuff. I looked like an idiot though telling everyone how good it was and then it tasted like crap. What the hell is the problem ! we need our Zubrowka here in the US!
