Is Warszawa Centralna train station that dangerous?

Hello!
I will be arriving by train to Warszawa Centralna on 18th August about 7:30 AM. As I should meet my group (am going to some student seminar) on the airport no sooner than 12:30, I planned to spend at least a couple of hours in and around the train station, to do some necessary things (go to toilet, exchange money, buy sth to eat, wander a bit), and then take a public bus to the Airport. But several people told me that the Centralna station isn't safe at all for foreigners, that I should better leave it immediately and be very careful while there. Is it really that scary and dangerous place, full of villains? I mean, it'll be a morning, not some midnight hour?! Is it safe enough to do those things I wanted?

Good god, I don’t know who told you that but it is the same as any central inner-city railway station. I come from the UK but now live in Poland for the last six years, and I would say that Warszawa Centralna train station is no more dangerous than any other place. True it does have its lurkers, looking for a way to steal your wallet and such, but so do the London train stations and all others in Europe. Just keep your wits about you and you will be ok, i.e. don’t go down any dark alleys but you wouldn’t do that in your own country would you!!!

Yes ;-) Don't listen to these people who told you that anymore... if central would be that dangerous then I should probably be dead by now, because I'm always staying at the East station (which is considered as far more dangerous).... sometimes in the late hours. Ok, I'm not foreigner, but that doesn't matter.

i heard that warsaw central station is a really scary and dangerous place, full of villians... dang... i even heard those guardian angles hard nutta vigillanty homeboys from new york got their butts kicked... just like they did in victoria london... which is another central inner-city railway station. infact, i heard that them inner-city railway station places are all scary and dangerous, full of villians... theysa scary and dangerous places them inner-city railway stations i heard... dang, theyse full of villains

Thanks very much, I am relieved now. I was really puzzled by some words from other Polish people about this station. I just couldn't believe it was any scarier than other big train stations.

Anyway, I have got 1 more question: I should take a bus 175 to the airport. Does it set off from the street Aleje Jerozolimskie (not sure about the spelling), the bus stop number 2 (I was informed so)? Is that street easy to find from the station?

The bus stop which you asked is near the central station. It's on Aleje Jerozolimskie as you said. You shouldn't have any problems to find it :) Just remember to get into the bus on the right side of the street. :)

I would have thought that during the day time especially when people are around going to work you should have no trouble at all. If you come out of the train station you can get on a number 175 bus that will take you right up to the airport building. There was a time, some time ago now, when the place had a lot of Romanian gypsies hanging around trying to beg for money. I did hear that prostitutes were hanging out there but probably at night. You will need to be careful as in any city abroad not to make yourself stand out as a foreigner and attract too much attention. In fact, you want to be careful more in the train itself rather than at the main railway station. I have heard of someone being robbed and then killed by being thrown through the window of a train compartment. On another occasion, a brother of a friend was traveling home from Denmark and was drinking something in his compartment. He left to go to the toilet and on his return he continued to drink his juice only to find that it had been spiked whilst he was out of the compartment. He woke up much later to find himself stripped down to his underpants-they had stolen everything, all his clothes and all his presents. At first, the police thought that he was drunk.

Considering that the 175 is supposed to be Warszawa's most crime-ridden bus route, it feels really safe to me. I've never seen the remotest sign of trouble on that route, and I've used it hundreds of times.

But I live in south London, so I would think that. :D
