There are clubs in places like Torry in Aberdeen to teach Poles the Doric dialect. That'd be hilarious, walking into a Torry bar and being asked by the Polish barman, 'fit ye fir, min?'. They are quite popular. I've heard that Poles don't want to integrate in Edinburgh that much, well, fair enough, but learning dialects is showing an effort to integrate. When I use Silesian dialect here, the students love it as it bridges gaps

Probably it's true that some Polish people in Edinburgh don't want to integrate but then there are some Scots in Edinburgh who don't want to integrate with anyone either! Even other Scots.

A couple of my friends have picked up words like "aye" and "ken" and "dinnae".

Aye, it's a braw moon licht nicht the nicht! :)

True but then again, every place with a large Polish population will also include some Poles who don't want to integrate. That's life... My Scottish is grand...it's my Polish that lets me down... :)

Most of those Englishmen have Scottish ancestry. OK, Bell and Baird did some research elsewhere but they are still Scottish. At least we produce more graduates relative to the size of our country given that u guys charge high fees for Further Education. Why? Because u wanted to Scotland in the UK so u gave us a sweetener. Without our oil revenues, u'd be much less rich than u r now

Read this URL

Bell was Scottish but the telephone was patented in US. Still it's inventor was a Scot.

Exactly, he was a Scot. Polski to trudny jêzyk/Polski jest trudnym jêzykiem, ne? I don't want to get into attacks on the English as many of my friends are English. That's an English trait, trying to gloat about how they are better. They have their good things and we have ours, so what? It's pointless arguing as they know little of our accomplishments.

I didn't say they all had, I said most. I didn't say Scotland pays for England either, on the scale that u envisage. It's u guys that want to keep us more than we want to keep u. The Scottish Parliament (1999) was a sign that we wanted more autonomy and the SNP has grown in voice in recent years.

Then again, this thread would be about welcoming Polish people to Britain, not the differing opinions regarding Scotland and England...

A report written by the Scottish Office economist Gavin McCrone for ministers[16] in the mid-1970s indicated that with ownership of North Sea oil, an independent Scotland would have "embarrassingly large tax surpluses"[17], that the economy of an independent Scotland, with control over the majority of UK North Sea oil revenue would have the one of the "hardest" currencies in Europe and that "for the first time since the Act Of Union was passed, it can now be credibly argued that Scotland's economic advantage lies in its repeal

Yeah, David Stirling, he did a sterling job, probably from Stirling. Ajgraham cannot doubt the effectiveness of the SAS. They frightened the PIRA. I've read widely on their various successes, hats off to David. We are all waiting for ur response aj

Without immigration we would have accomplished a lot less. Immigration enriches our culture and keeps our eyes and minds open to new ideas and concepts. It also prevents us inbreeding!

Exactly, letting foreigners into a country can help that country. Look at countries that don't let foreigners in that easily, China, Japan etc. They admitted foreigners in and their linguistic skills improved as a result

"Royalty are among the most successful of immigrants."

Our UK Royal family are essentially German. Before y'all jump down my throat, check out the following article from The Independent.(as opposed to the Daily Mail).

No i'm sorry mate you will have to do better than that....First of all Mongomery and Alexander were born and lived in England (most so called great Scotsmen are infact Englishmen born with a Scottish name)....Secondly you have listed a load of medevil battles that mean nothing to anyone!!...I think you nead to know more about the Campaines!!.....Which you came of worse!.......You listed Derby?.....Well what was the outcome of that?.......You lot being Hammered at Colloden!!....and you need to educate yourself about the English Civil War!....What was the outcome of the Scottish Army??....Not a happy one! I havn't heard much about York and Manchester.....So i don't think it could have been that important, and by the way i've read alot about this.... in Normany Montgomery was going to send your famous ''51st Highland Division'' back home.... because of poor fighting qualities!.....So there you go!.......Oh and by the way Clever Dick....You were talking about the Internet!!.....Where i was talking about the World Wide Web.

Medieval battles, there, a Scotsman showing an Englishman how to spell. It's Culloden btw but given that u only read English rags, u wouldn't have known that. Anyone worth their salt in military terms will know who David Stirling is but Montgomery and Alexander the not so Great, that's a different story.
