My logic- I'm no tree hugger, but I know that it's dangerous fro the surrounding environment and workers there. If there's a problem, it's so far out there that it would take days to get to, dig them out and freeze :) Plus the fact that animal habitats would be destroyed. We're in the age of technology and we need an environmentally friendly alternate. How can you not understand?

Well, the workers do get bored up on the field in Prudhoe Bay: they work like 8-9 days
on, them a few days off, 12 hour days...also, there is no alchohol allowed for the oil
workers off the job...as far as the environment, there has never been a serious oil leak
on the current pipeline, or any environmental/animal damage related to it...there was the Exxon-Valdez oil spill, but that was on a tanker ship a thousand miles from the oil fields in the Gulf of Alaska...the point is: the oil is there to make the US independent of
any foreign oil...I am for alternative technology, but the corporations are fighting any
new energy technologies because they do not want to invest in the infra-structure needed to make these available en masse...the fields that I mentioned are actually very
accessible and could be profitably tapped, but the big boys don't want this...a good

Here is an interesting article on the dollar vs the rest of the world.

Finance ministers and central bankers have long fretted that at some point, the rest of the world would lose its willingness to finance the United States' proclivity to consume far more than it produces - and that a potentially disastrous free-fall in the dollar's value would result.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/09/13/news/econ.php

What I got and have seen from all your posts (when on topic) is a gradual down trend.

I am looking at Poland as a place to spend about 6 months as a home bases of sorts. So looking at costs compared to the rest of Europe. How is cost of living in Poland compared to the rest of Europe? I see Poland as being a good deal if you are willing to live conservatively.

Joe I think each sincere Amarican intellectual is interested in the withdrawal of US army and US agressive policy from the rest of the world. According to dates I read in Rissian mass-media young Americans feel more sympathy toward isolationism

Are you fkn mad? The world is a hard enough place to police with the americans! God knows the mess this planet would be in without them.

Ps- you 2 clowns should get a room!!! fkn halfwits

Well, it will be interesting. I think people from other coutries than the US don't get the whole message yet. They seem happy their currencies (like Polish Zloty) are strong. But they forget that their export will die because people now buy whatever they can in the US. Not even in China sometimes. Canadians go shopping to US; I've heard people from the UK do the same. The US won't import anything from Europe because it's just too expensive and Americans won't buy it. Euro car dealers in the US are in much trouble, Japanese too..

I guess it will go as low as at 2 zl per dollar and from then on it will only increase for the next months or years... The turn of the falling trend will be after the US presidential elections in a year.

Do you mean Poland doesn't trade with USA? What about the F-16, GM or Ford-owned cars, not to mention Polish businesses in Iraq.

Either way, I notice Polish beer is very expensive in the US (like $16 per 6-pack) -- people won't buy it..

Not really. Most of Poles don't give a damn. Those working abroad obviously don't like It.

You are way too optimistic. Dollar used to be too strong and that was bad for export but now It is too weak and still falling. US has still very large trade deficit and you can't change that in short time, in some cases (like oil) you can't change that at all.

The world economy is heading for a recession. Nothing new - it's just part of the cycle. How deep the recession will be will depend upon many factors as usual. As hello says above world trade will fall away. The sub prime lending fall out is just beginning in my opinion. There are huge losses yet to be announced in my opinion. The capital markets are based on confidence or lack of it so forecasting is difficult at the best of times.

That's about 2-3% of our trade. Czech Republic is our much more important trade partner than USA.

None of you so far has mentioned that the main reason the US dollar is falling is the mortgage crisis in USA. This with addition to Iraq and Afghanistan is not a good combination. Let's wait till the elections next year. A lot will change. In the meantime to those who want to get rid of US curency an advice: you sell when it is high and buy when it is low, so...buy a lot of US dollars
