hello everyone, i just officially signed up. =) i posted a couple of times under a different handle two months ago, and i have been lurking around as a guest since then. i'm a 31 year old woman living in connecticut in the united states. this past year i was working for an international company, and i got to know several polish women.

in september, one of my polish coworkers set me up with her brother's best friend. since then i've been dating a 26 year old polish guy who speaks a little english; he has only been here in the US for 16 months. he spoke very little english when we first met, but his english is getting much better, and i'm even learning a few things in polish. i really do adore him, but sometimes the communication issue/ culture clash seems to be a small problem.

anyway, i'm happy to be here! and look forward to getting to know some of you. =)

thanks! if things continue to go well with my boyfriend i may be interested in taking formal polish classes as well. they don't offer intro to polish classes very often here--it looks like i'd have to wait until fall of next year. in the meantime, i'm just picking up what i can from him, his friends, and my friends. my boyfriend is taking ESL classes, which is great. where do you live patrycja?

I live in Michigan

do you know of any churches Locally that might offer it, that is how I will be taking
it, we dont have intro polish here either , only at the community college . but
my other option would be My Cousin "kuzynka". her schedule is so busy though.

I agree with you on the communication part, I write to cousins in Poland, they write
in English, rather have someone do it at the local church, that was sooo sweet.
I try like heck to make sure I have the correct words. I have a polish to english book
that I use too, but I still get confused on alot of the words.

I think you two will be fine

looking into classes at a polish church is a good idea, i hadn't thought of that. i just looked at the websites for two local polish churches and couldn't find anything about polish classes, but i guess i will ask my friends when i see them next. the community college is what i was thinking about doing, but i just looked and they do have an intro class begining in feb. but it conflicts with my tai chi class! oh well, i'll figure something out. a saturday class would be ideal for me.

i also have a polish/ english dictionary. and we mostly send text msgs since it's easier for us to communicate that way rather than over the phone. we do much better in person tho. one of my former polish coworkers is helping me a bit too, which is very sweet of her.

Text messages is good idea.

We have couple Catholic schools which teach Polish (intro)

they offer night classes. maybe that would be the case in conn?

I was thinking of asking hubby to get me a software that teaches, its the sounds
that get me, my cousin will tell me in polish to say something, and I would mess
it up , I know its a long road ahead. lol.
