Vincent:
those teams got to the semi's on merit

true .... but only one of these was the English Champion, so in a way it is a bit stupid :o)

Maybe they should rename the competition ..... Champions + runner-up + 2nd runner-up + 4th place League !

Polson:
if Wisła never plays big games like these, i'm sure they will never attract world viewers... Let them play, and they'll have fans in every part of the world

Also playing on such a big stage against the best in Europe can only make them raise their game and with the monetary rewards they can improve their team by attracting better players.

OK so there are better teams in the english prem that finish second and third compared with the champions of say Poland or the Czech republic, however if you don't give these teams a chance they will never develop and therefore the world wide game will never develop!!!!!

Seconldy can you remember and tell me who the last team to finsih 1st in their league and win the champions league were??? i think you'll find that since the champions league has been allowing qualification from 2nd 3rd and 4th places. The teams who are the champions of their nation actually go out earlier as they are fighting battles that are often four pronged rather than one.

Take liverpool for example, the season they won it i think they finished fourth or fifth in the English Premier league. Of course they can win it these teams who finish thrid and fourth because they don't usually focus on the domestic league and can put all their efforts into europe!!

What your saying about Wisla is rubbish, of course they will improve, of course they will get richer it just takes somebody with the balls to say, hay there are 36 places in the champions league and this will consist of 30 champions and then the 2nd places from Italy, Spain, England, Germany, France and Holland. Its pretty simple to me, the more exposure the smaller teams get the better they will get and the more they will develop due to the money they will recieve.

Don't underestimate how hard this competition is to win or get anywhere near the quarter finals, or semi's. It takes a club many, many years to build up a team to that standard...What would be so good about getting slaughtered in the first rounds of this league, it can't be good for the club or supporters. Playing in the EUFA cup is the best starting point for clubs that want to move on to better things...the Champions league is only for the elite of europe and any smaller clubs will get crushed. Sad fact...but true.

Champions of Europe are elite :)

So what ? Maybe they will the first times...and sometimes surprises happen ! Not long ago, i think it was Eindhoven or Arsenal (don't remember) almost got eliminated by Slavia Prague. Practice and time (experience) will make these "small" clubs bigger and able to beat teams such as Manchester U or Barcelona.

From what I've heard football in Poland is a long way off the likes of Italy, Spain and England. I've heard that there is a lack of interest in football in Poland. They don't spend enough money in the sport. From the videos I saw the top teams have a stadium capacity of about 10,000 and STILL fail to fill the stadium. Someone somewhere needs to inject some enthusiasm into the game. Here you see kids as early 3-4 kicking around a ball about. My nephew aged 2 is kicking a ball about (with some power too @.@) By the age of 8 they're livid football fans. If what I hear is true about football in Poland then some work needs to be done before the Polish domestic league moves forward. Kids should be the focus, get their attention, grab their interest.

It took Man United a decade to get into stride with the Champions League.

well Porto who are not a big team on the european stage managed it : they won it. teams like Villarreal, Monaco, Fernabache, Staeua Bucharest, Dortmund etc etc some of which also won the competion managed to knock out bigger teams, lets not forget Red Star Belgrade too.

Anyway of course there never going to knock the bigger teams out because there not even let into the competition or given the stage to develop and grow.

True, i hope it'll change soon.

I agree on the fact that attendance is low, but top teams have bigger stadia :)
Wisła's stadium has a capacity of around 20,000 (not sure)
Legia a little more maybe... Lech Poznań 30,000 (maybe more), Korona Kielce has a new stadium (between 20,000 and 30,000)...
Wisła and Legia are planning on building new and bigger stadia.

What about their debts ?... You know Real Madrid ? They buy players with money they don't have. Is it what you call "sport" ? Btw, in France, clubs who can't afford players, don't have the right to buy them. That's not the case in England, Spain and Italy.

Why ? If there is one Polish club able to have a European status, it's Wisła (and Legia).

good good, all support is welcome :)

However while the other teams are good, they are not at the top of the tree in their respected countries like Bayern Munchen.

You can be a club's fan, and respect the other clubs at the same time, that's doable :)
