Wojtek Cejrowski gives up his Polish citizenship!

I was interested to hear on the news today that Wojtek Cejrowski, Polish 'anthropologist', journalist, traveler has given up his Polish citizenship and taken on an Ecuadorian passport! He says he is fed up of the hassles of life in Poland and the EU and that Ecuador has more freedom and an easier lifestyle than Europe.
All my Polish friends really like him but I used to really dislike the guy as I always found his programmes from other countries somewhat patronising and arrogant. Then he got a chat show which made me revise my opinion of him as it is actually pretty funny. Today I checked out this news story to see him being portrayed in the press as a raving loony fascist (including pretty dodgy quotes by him in the past)! Have to revise my opinion of him again, unless of course he is now being portrayed badly because of his latest 'protest' and comments about Poland and Europe?

That was always the impression I had of him (back in his days with his program ... Kwadrans WC?).

I think he's probably smart and kind of funny but he has some really awful ideas.

And link to the story?

I think he is a combination of both, good and bad to put is simply. He has his own opinion about things and I guess he uses a freedom of speach. He is loud, he is politically incorrect and I guess he belives in wha the says. It is interesting to see how he uses media to his advantage. I think he actually lacks substance, although his travels are valid, but then there are many other people in Poland who do travel extensively, yet they don't talk about it.

Nope, he won't. People kidnapped by Ecuadorian thugs do not have the capabilities to apply for pretty much anything.

Ecuador... that's a good one :)))

Cejrowski is OK and we need more people like him. This is sad how unattractive Poland (and Europe) is for people who has some clue.

Btw, Cejrowski a fascist?? If you had any idea about political systems then you would know that Cejrowski views classify him somewhere close to opposite pole to fascism!

I don't know who the guy is, but Ecuador? Please, in three years he'll be either dead or begging to let him back into Poland! LOL

Yesterday, my mother watched a talk show with W.C. as a guest, and he said this whole giving up Polish citizenship rubbish was invented by the "Dziennik" newspaper, although he's very crictical to EU burocracy and such, he denied the will to reject the citizenship. I hope my mum didn't mix things up, like she sometimes does, so if someone saw the talk show (probably on TVP1 or TVP2), you could confirm/deny what I just wrote.

So life in Ecudaor is better than the EU? Why don't you move there than?

EUCCP? Wow, I don't even know what to say.

POLAND is rated as one of the least friendly places for entrepreneurs/small businesses in the world. Maybe he wanted to start a business and had enough.

I'm sure he must have had a business established earlier, otherwise the taxes and ZUS eat too much of your nice money earned in TV :)

I don't exclude such possibility in the future. The big difference between myself on Cejrowski is that he already overcame cultural differences, speak Spanish fluently and have enough of cash to start some serious business over there.

I don't claim to be a specialist from Ecuadorian affairs, however I think that this country is on other stage of development. But this might be true that they offer way better conditions than socialist Europe for people with initiative to start some business.

I suppose that you simply know very little, if not then go to proper threads in political section and try to overthrow arguments that I raised. I'm always open for a serious discussion on these matters which contain certain problems rather than empty slogans.

Well not really. Cejrowski thinks of Europe as a place for pensioners and old German tourists on wheelchairs. Ecuador is a more of a challenge for him plus he does seem to be into Latin American culture. As for his person, I think mirandas description was pretty much spot on. He definitely is witty but too arrogant if you ask me. He seems to be quite an open minded person but acts like a catholic fundamentalist at times. All in all definitely an interesting character but his moaning, even if witty, gets on my nerves.

-edit-

Is Poland really one of the least friendly entrepreneurs?

The new interview with Cejrowski, he indeed wants to give up citizenship because of the EU.

My wife used to like him because of his travelling books and shows, but after watching him insult educated professors in a recent TV debate on sex education in Polish schools, she says he's a rude, arrogant a$$hole who pushes his catholic ideolagy onto others.

Senyszyn is a professor of communist economy while everybody know that this is worth nothing at all. So is her education and knowledge. She is often invited to TV programs because she act like a arrogant clown herself.

Perhaps Cejrowski sometimes overreact but how often he is just right!
