Cost of living in Wroclaw (rent price too)

What do you usually spend money on when you're away from home?


Cinema, clubs? How tight/lavish is your budget? Be more specific and I'm sure someone from Wroclaw will help you out.

On average pretty much everything is somewhat cheaper than in Eire. So you if you go by irish prices you won't err much and perhaps will be nicely surprised here and there.

Hmmm I mean regarding things like clothes, food and drink? I will have perhaps about 500 euro, would that go far for a week? No pub chasing or clubs :)

Does the euro go far when converted to zloty?

I am Poolak, Indian, living in Singapore now. If things go per plan, I will be moving to Wroclaw soon (in or around December 2012) with my family as a company transfer.

I will be joining (actually an inter-company transfer) a company there and it is going to be a long term one (hopefully). This is my first trip to Poland and that too with family (my wife only) from Singapore.

My office will be in Muchoborska and I plan to live nearby (just a plan). Few things I would sincerely appreciate feedback/guidance on from the community in this forum regarding my settling down in Wroclaw

- Getting an accommodation (max 2 room) - furnished in a decent neighborhood - with additional cost estimate (like agent commission, deposit etc)
- Living cost (average) consisting of following main items:
- Electricity (average)
- Grocery (not a regular outside eater we are) - average for an Indian family of two persons
- TV / internet (+ cable)
- Transportation (average)
- Phone (with international dialing, my daughter lives in US)
- Medical insurance (my company will pay for me; I need to bear the one for my wife)

Not to mention, I do need an accommodation almost immediately I reach there - my company will not provide any in the initial stage Any help in this area is genuinely appreciated.

They won't provide you with one in the initial stage or in a later stage for that matter ... simply never.


Two room apartment about PLN 1.500 a month. Add about 200 in services and utilities.

PLN 50 a day for two people for groceries gets you a long way.

PLN 100 a month for internet and cable (if you want to have all the foreign stations you can have over here (you might want to consider skyping your daughter in the US).

PLN 90 for a monthly ticket for the buses and trams.

PLN 104,11 a month for Partner Medical Package Plus (unlimited visits to a specialist - limited is PLN 81,96 - IBM deal with MediCover).

Buses that are going from the bus stop near IBM (Szkocka) are the 126, 134 and 136. Have a look on wroclaw.jakdojade.pl/?locale=en (then tab "Schedules") to see where the buses take you and therefore where you'd have to look for an apartment.

I have a job opportunity on Wroclaw and I need to know if someone could help me to understand the costs of living in this beautiful city.

I have a wife and 2 children and need to know the following:
What is the average costs for rent a house or an apartment with 3 bedrooms? And schools? There are public schools for foreigners?
What about the language? We speak Portuguese, Spanish and English.. but Polish seems to be very hard to learn.

Hi all in this forum,

I am new in this; I've seen that this website is the most active and up-to-date, about giving information about Poland in general.

My interest to this forum, is, that my company is offering me a transfer, from my country (Venezuela) to Poland, in Wroclaw (as you see on the title of this thread). I work in IT.

I've check a lot of threads, but, my main concerns isn't answer yet, still been very close. From the Polish side, they're offering me 12K Zloty Gross, which, after reductions (tax, insurance, etc..) it's about 8400 Zloty netto (according to my calculations, and from this website they gave me: infor.pl/kalkulatory/brutto_netto.html#wynikiform )

Is this amount, good for living (rent an apartment/flat, food, transportation)? Save for future? I'll be going there alone, and I think it's a good opportunity and experience, for a least, a couple of years.

Any suggestions, tips, will be very welcome; just want to be sure, that the threads I had check are correct.

How about entertainment? Don`t say you are going to depend on TV exclusively!

That is a very good salary. If it's fair is another story depending on your position/work experience. But with 8400 a month you can pretty much do anything you want and still save money.

Do you think is possible to live with 3500 złotych ( net ) per month in Wroclaw?
I am a person who does not have great needs so I do not do shopping (only if it proves necessary), I do not smoke, I drink a few beers (socially) and sometimes I go to the cinema or theater.

As for the accommodation, I think I would try a shared room so I could save something (I guess).

Unless you have expensive habits, yes.

Rooms are usually 600zł a month, and often negotiable. You might have to pay for electricity/gas/water/internet in addition, however. Fares are approx. 90zł a month if you get a travel pass (Urbancard). Clothes are cheap if you go to the secondhand shops. Speaking personally, I'd be very happy if I had 3500zł coming in each month in Wroclaw :o) although some people with loans and repayments or a family will of course find 3500 to be inadequate.

I think it is good to do a new international experience and then create new friendships, learn about a new reality and understand the peculiar aspects. Sometimes we focus too much on the macroscopic aspects and less on a more objective analysis, and close to the facts of a single reality. I think each country is fascinating and that wherever we can learn regardless of existing issues. I think we should think about it as citizens of the world.

I have a bachelor's degree, different academic experiences in Denmark and Finland but here I can not find a job. Poland is definitely a fascinating country. I visited Krakow for 4 days and I had a good impression. I am aware that life is different from the trip, however, when you are young is right to be bold and have courage. The reality is complicated, however, we live only once and it is right to live different experiences in different countries.

One of the features that impressed me of Polish citizens is the great humility, simplicity and boldness in tackling a complicated reality. Sometimes we forget that simple things are the most beautiful.

would it be a good salary to leave in wroclaw.

my wife will join me after 2 or 3 months and hopefuly can find a job for her. she got master degree in biology-chemistery and got 6 years of experience in oil field as HSE

7800 Gross!! are we ok? it's 5500 net isn't it?

It's above average, so if you come from 3rd world country, you will be happy, but if you come from western Europe, then you'll be struggling especially that there is not so much need for Biologists and Chemist in Poland, especially not knowing local language.

I am coming maybe from a 3rd world contry, but I have a good salary, let's say that is i retrieve the rental fees from poland salary, i will have then almos the same salary than in my home contry except that in my home contry i dont rent a house, i got one?

so if i come it's mostly for the way of life and for the international carrere.

what I want to know is can I have a decent life with this salary and earn some money for "ex: travel, buy somethings, have bank credit to have some stuff...etc" let's say to live as human ;)

Actually you've got an answer. It's nearly double average salary. So you will be ok and if your wife can find a job then you will be quite well. (but probably she won't)

If you say that in Africa you have higher salary, then mind that also prices may vary, thus purchasing power may be much different than nominal salary indicates. Compare Wroclaw to capital of your country (usually there is more data for capital): numbeo.com/cost-of-living/comparison.jsp

With wife working you should be easily able to save some money. If she's not, then you will have to put an effort to save for a trip to Africa. No sense for more question, because people spend money differently and have various needs. What can be a lot for one is a little for another.

1. how much are the taxes application on gross salary if I am relocating from India?
2. what would be average monthly expenses for family of 2? Is it possible to manage in 5000PLN gross salary?
3. In which area the house rent is minimum, moderate and high?
4. what are the areas I should avoid to live
5. Could you suggest me some place to live which is at moderate distance from city, accessible to market place, hospitals, glossary shop etc
6. If i rent a apartment what facilities do I get with it? (e.g. furniture/fridge/TV/heater/AC/water etc) OR I get an empty house where I will have to manage myself?

7. If I get both things, then what would be the price difference?
8. What is mode of public transport? Is it good for a person who is working in shifts?
9. Does companies provide accommodation or transport facilities?
10. What kind of VISA is available? Is it possible to switch company after i start working with current company?
11. Any other suggestions/concerns?

5000 brutto ~ 3550 netto

3550 -1500 flat pcm = 2000 /2 = 1000zl / 30 days = 33zl daily per person. Minimum is 20zl daily.

2. apartment min. 1500zł + 1200 for other expenses. So it is possible, but sparingly.
3. i guess further from center is cheaper
6&7. we don't us AC in Poland. When apartments have furniture then they are usually old, so you don't have to pay extra, rather tolerate them

8. Are you asking weather there is enough public transport during night? There are some buses and trams, but less.
9. Not with 5000 salary.
10. Read embassy website to learn about Visas. If you have working visa from out of EU then it's usually for given company which you cannot change easily i think.

11. With 5000 gross you will have to seriously save to have money for ticket to India at least once per year.

So are you able to manage with this salary? Did your wife get a job of her liking there yet?

Thing is, I haven't yet accepted the offer and hence looking for your advice.

The important thing many people omit here is the seclusion of the second half. It will be always difficult for your other half to find work. And, if she doesn't find one and doesn't have a child to focus on she'll lead a secluded life, which can leave quite a strain on the relationship...
