Hello Folks,
I'd like to tap into your intelligence and guidance, on a couple of things. I am in the process of moving to Gdansk. If you can help answer and provide guidance, it will be really appreciated.

1. I will be offered around 23000 PLN/ month gross for a Senior Management role What would be the net take home be ?
2. Is this enough for a family for 2+1 child to live in the Gdansk area. I plan to live near the office
3. Are there Polish classes me and my wife can take to learn and integrate with the society
4. We are expecting a baby and if this baby is born in Gdansk, Poland will the baby be born Polish ? We'd like to retain the original nationality, is it possible ?

Please help guide. I Thank you in Advance for your guidance.

Regards
Vidi

2. Yes, easily and very comfortably.
3. Yes, these are easily available.

1. That's a big tax cut. But i guess, it is what it is. Government has the right, to take their share. Is it possible to buy a car for commutes in Poland in this net salary? Or is Public transit recommended.

2. Are there things, I should be aware about whilst working with Polish co workers ? I have worked internationally in US and Canada, but not EU.

3. Is it easy to mingle with Polish familes of co workers. Are polish folks open to new cultures. (We are Hindus and religious and tolerant too.)

Additional Question

1. What is the average senior management, salary range in Gdansk Area.
2. I have read that Gdansk, is among the more metropolitian areas in Poland. English is widely used and understood - Is this correct ?

1. That's a good salary, not below average for a senior post\
2. To a point. Educated people, especially younger people speak it. Waiters etc usually do. Don't automatically expect shop staff or cab drivers to know English.

On Work permit and Residency:

1. The company will provide work permit and will facilitate getting the same. What would be the duration of the work permit ?
2. How may years, in employment ( with Job and paying taxes) do i have to invest, in order to receive permanent residency ?

Thank you , for your responses.

1. That depends - normally they renew if necessary.
2. Again, that depends on your individual circumstances however it wouldn't be worth doing with less than 5 years there and this would not (as things stand now) entitle you to live or work elsewhere in Schengen.

>> Thanks Jon.

If i lose my job, due to any given reason - would I be able to search for a job and stay in Poland or have to return back to home country ?

You would be able to search, however residence permission is tied to the work permit, so your new company would need to get another work permit - you would probably need to return home to process the new residence permits.

Thank you Jon357.

Apologies, for asking more questions to the community - Folks can you also guide me on:

1. Appartment rental for 2 Rooms, furnished in Gdansk Area.
2. With a Net take home, of 16000 PLN / month, how much can i save - considering once / twice month eat out and entertainment , utilities, internet, etc on a broad scale. How much can i potentially save ?

3. Is buying a used car and maintaining it a costly proposition ? Or should I stick to public transport.

Advise and suggestions welcome.

1. Appartment rental for 2 Rooms, furnished in Gdansk Area.

Have a look here. Most look between 1500 and 2000. There will also be bills (gas, water, electric, internet, 300-400 on top.

With a Net take home, of 16000 PLN / month, how much can i save - considering once / twice month eat out and entertainment , utilities, internet, etc on a broad scale. How much can i potentially save ?

Up to 10,000. You will live very comfortably on 6000 and many people manage to save on just that.

3. Is buying a used car and maintaining it a costly proposition ? Or should I stick to public transport.

It's a nuisance but possible. People in Poland don't like buying second-hand cars, and it would be difficult (or impossible) to get credit for a longer period than your residence permit. Public transport in Gdansk is excellent however one possibility would be to speak to your company about leasing.

3. Is buying a used car and maintaining it a costly proposition ? Or should I stick to public transport.

Definitely the used car prices are reasonable these days, especially if you look at it as a means of transport and not a status symbol... I would look for a French make - probably best comfort/technology/value combination on the market... best option would be from a private seller, original or long term owner...

People in Poland don't like buying second-hand cars

Where did you hear this one?
