Interesting you'd think that Lyzko. I am really hoping to absorb the polish culture as much as I can. It's always eye-opening experiencing the world from outside your familiar cultural box.
I was surprised to hear a lot about skin heads and neo-nazis in high boots. I would think that the influence and memory of Hitler would be something that people in eastern/central europe would run from! I remember I took a course on eastern central european history in university and I must say it was THE MOST difficult course I have ever taken to this day. Such a tumultous history!

CzarDaniel, some ppl are winding you up here, there are some mindless idiots out there, but it is the same in any country, just avoid them. When you arrive, you will find some other black-american/english/africans and they will inform you on local culture. Both Krakow and Wroclaw are very nice cities, especially Wroclaw and it has not been spoiled yet. Enjoy have a great time-success

I suspect sadly that many Poles laughed whole heartedly at the intended racism.

zetigrek:
don't understand polish sarcasm

All I know is that over here often political cartoonists will use a sarcastic twist of irony in an attempt to get their point across. At first glance what appears to be offensive is really mocking the offender.
I thought this likely was the case in the cartoon WB saw as I find it difficult to believe a mainstream newspaper would permit such blatant racism on its pages. I could be wrong...

A year there was a tv comercial which was racist in some way. But i don't believe that someone could make a blatant and intencially racist cartoon

you'd fare far better in Poland today than a Caucasian English teacher of Jewish descent

To tell you the truth Jews aren't viewed in positive light in many places of the world.

MareGaea:
I would definitively advise him or her to watch "Mississippi Burning" by Allan Parker. Great film about what happens when racism gets out of hand

Well, I'll not agree whatever film was great or not, but surly you cannot based your knowledge about facts on the entertainment industry.
There is more to the story - anyway let it be it was in 1964.

Very heart wrenching film and a sad reminder of what it was like in the old days in America. I hope people do not feel like my intention on this thread was to stir up race issues. I just genuinely wanted honest answers from polish nationals about how I may be perceived in Poland.

Further, some possible scenarios mentioned here are in fact not "racism" at all but merely PC hypersensitivity on display. Again, if one goes in looking for something they're bound to find it.

All of this only serves to play into the dishonest narrative of the black and black-apologist Libs who forever see white racists behind every tree. While forgetting that white teachers face even more racial problems, real threats and very real violence in the classroom and streets of any black area of every major US city from racist blacks, without having to go looking for it. But this doesn't fit the black/ Lib one-sided scolding narrative about race...

Hey, how about having czarnuch screamed at you followed up with a bottle flying past your head, and then staring down a group of hooligans that want to throw down?

Is that a Lib one sided narrative about race? How about PC hypersensitivity?

It's not a political issue. Lots of people giving their spin on things.

There are quite a few (relatively) Poles that are racist and will treat you negatively based solely on the color of your skin. It doesn't matter what the reasons are for it, or that it's a novelty, or any of that crap. 95% of people are cool as hell. 4% are hardcore racists. 1% are violent racists... I think most people will tell you it's getting better though.

I've lived in Wroclaw for two years without incident. Friend of mine comes over from the states, and well, lets say there's defiantly a difference...

It is political and my comparing it to the US is legitimate because it pertains to how this dishonest, one-sided racial narrative has spread across borders and across the world. Racial PC run amok vs. reality.

I'm sure what you say is true, as there are racists and bad areas of every single nation on earth. But the majority who answered the guy's question here seem to think it very unlikely that he'll encounter any problems in Poland. That is the reality as it applies here, not the stoked racial fears that seem more and more to be baseless.
Sure, better to be safe than sorry but it also doesn't make sense to stir mostly baseless fears either. That serves no one. He is not going to land at the airport and immediately be assaulted because he is black.

kickboxing again for the next 3 weeks lol.

It`s useless. People who definietly wouldn`t want to meet probably train thai box, bjj and other this kind of stuff. Against people who don`t train, you no need this skill. Against 3-4 boys kickboxing is no enough. Better take your gun mate ;D

So with that logic an Arab could have as many wives as he would like in Poland.. Dont be silly you abide by the countries laws once you enter were not talking about drivers licenses here.

Those guys (that genuinely train this stuff) aren't going to bother anyone. Many of them know fine well that they run the real risk of getting a knife pulled on them - and a severed tendon could be bye bye MMA.

The ones who wear the clothes but who don't train - nothing to be afraid of, after all, most of them would be incapable of running after you anyway :)

I don't think people will stare that much, where I live in Poland I have seen one or two black people and they are not subjected to stares from members of the public. I think it's when a black guy is with a Polish woman you then have a problem. However, the family of the girl are usually the ones who object. I think that when people see a black man with a white Polish woman in the street they are more relieved that it's not their daugther, sister etc who is with him, producing "devils offspring". You'll be alright.

Ive posted this before. When awaiting friends in Wroclaw from Ryan air flights from Stansted you see many Polish girls arriving with black, Pakistani and Indian boyfriends from good old Blighty (England), its interesting noting the reactions of the fathers and brothers of the girls at the airport knowing that Poland is quite a racist country.

Racism is ignorance extreme.

yup, though I thought that was obvious. His message - You'll be all right as long as you don't date a Polish girl - racism pure and simple. I could be indignant and serious, sure but I chose to laugh it off (best way IMHO) apart from a single tear or two ;)

Maybe the girls do it for shock value or to punish their fathers? Happens over here...

Racism is ignorance extreme.

This is a catchy phrase but not necessarily based in truth.

No it's not. It is a warning of racism.

I'm not saying it is but a great start i think, its also something i made up on the spot, perhaps you could rephrase something a little better.

You and I are not going to see eye to eye, and your'e quite an easy person to beat verbally, a victim if you will, prey maybe. Should be fun.

I've heard this secondhand from college girls explaining why some of their fellow coeds elect to get with minorities. Additionally, their is psych research to support this view...

It mirrors a common refrain over here that "all racism stems from ignorance". The implication being that only folks who don't know minorities hate them. This simply is not true. I have personally known open-minded people who did their best to be accepting of blacks... only to change their view once being exposed to what takes place regularly in black urban areas after they moved there. So it would seem that some racism does not stem from ignorance but from exposure, from education, from experience...

Fundamentally flawed for three reasons:

1st: youre talking America not Poland
2nd: second hand information
3rd: the old i know someone source, hardly credible

Again flawed easily thrown out by the nature/nurture argument as well as it it not being a Polish incident which is what this board is all about. The former, tell those same people who have been your source to live in white trash areas, poor people with nothing, no education , no money the picture would be the same quite possibly worse.

You mention urban areas, go to a Mexican URBAN area or a white trash URBAN area or a black URBAN area whats the difference?

Got to dash now but i'll be back.
