Hello !!!
I have noticed during my job interviews in Poland they always ask me about my expectation of salary.
SHouldn't be like they tell u how much is the salary and u'll say if u're agree or not ??
I never know which kind of answer I have to give to this question !!

I totally agree with you. It really irritates me when you see job offers advertised, but the salary is never mentioned.

It's the same when someone is selling something like a car .... they hardly ever mention the 'For Sale' price.

well...today I've got an interview...and I've got this question related to the first 3 month (trial contract), before to answer they told me after 3 months the salary will get higher if they decided to hire me definitely...I told them minimum 1600 on hands for the first period...I know it's not a lot...but listening my polish friends isn't that bad...I'm still studying and I speak little polish...the job is connected with the italian market...I need to speak 90% of the time in Italian and the rest in Polish....what do u think ? too low salary ?

Way too low, you could make 1600 a month teaching Italian without much effort.

I actually feel more relaxed and ok to work in a office than teaching Italian.

It's not thaaat bad, I dunno what exactly you're doing as your job, average IT students get around 8-12 zlotys (after taxation ) per hour as their first job... it usually rises pretty quickly with graduation and experience..

It's a company who control some movement of goods all over Europe, My field is the Italian Market, stay in touch with Italian parterns, collaborate with them, customer service and other stuff like that...I think it's a nice job...just the salary isn't that attractive !

You could always try the "I meant that much per week" routine.

Could the same job be done by a Polish person? If so, it's a fair salary (I assume it's netto, not brutto?) for what it is. But still - you could get 50zl an hour for teaching, and only need to teach 32 hours a month to make the same money...

In big companies this is a tricky question and aim is to understand how much you value yourself. So you should always say at least thirty percent more than what you expect.

Salary for the position is more or less set before you go there, and they will make you the offer if they like your qualifications whether your expectation is high or low.

I always tell them that ideally I'd like $1,000,000 or more per hour but I understand they may not be able to afford that, so I'm open to offers.

I always tell them, it doesn't matter how much you pay me, I don't do this for the money I do it because I love it and I would do it for nothing.
And around about that time I cock the gun I have to the bank manager's head...

I would say aim high, that way they you are showing that you expect to be paid like someone who has that position or is an expert at that position. Harder to get up in pay once you are there, aim high to begin. If they like you, they will give it to you, or they will come back at a lower price. Either way you win.

Be careful and don't trust them too much! It is common practise to say after 3 months still 1600zl or man you didn't meet expectations, goodbye :/

Delphiandomine.......u're totally right in this...my "fault".
And..yes probably could be done by a pole too....but if they chose an Italian...maybe it's better to them

U mean if u had answered I expected 2500 they were going to give me 1600 anyway ? (yes it is netto)

Who knows, maybe they would give 2000(it is generally the case in big companies). But it is good to be demanding about salary if you think you are good at what you are doing.

In the States they ask that too. And it's a tricky one. You say too low-they think you underestimate yourself, you say too high-they think you're an arrogant fool.
On my interview, i asked for a bit too low amount and they gave me more...
It's usually expected they will ask you how much you wanna make...

Find out what the position you are seeking pays; then add 10% which allows you to negotiate if need be.

In this case, I recommend waiting the 3 months, then hitting them with a "either pay me what I deserve or I walk" - if you're good and they need you more than you need them, voila - they'll pay.

I will be seeking a new man-servant this summer. The last one died from too much work. I pay $20 a week for your beer money. In addition, it's all you can eat and there is room in the storage cage where you can sleep. Many MBA's have already sent me their resumes so get yours in right away.

As long as that is all the beluga caviar I can eat, you have a deal. Just put five kilos a week in the fridge and I'll help myself as and when I want.

Once, it worked for me!

They told me their offer, it was higher than what I wanted....so I, naturally, sat back and had a think before saying yes :P
