An IT System Engineer intrested in moving to Poland

Hello i should Soon Get My Polish Citizenship and would like to understand how is it working and living in poland. i am an it system engineer and would appreciate if someone can share details like interesting work opportunities in Poland i like to find a nice place in the country near the big cities Warsaw or Krakow . and would appreciate any tips of how to find a place work etc. Thanks Arie

There are IT companies that will hire you despite your knowledge of Polish language. As for interesting work opportunities you've got google in Krakow, Nokia in Wrocław. Dunno what's in Warsaw but prolly lots of nice well known brands you can join. Looking for work in it is pretty simple you send them your cv and wait for the answer - then you go for an interview and that's all just like in it in any other country.

I do not believe its that simple.

I have been trying to find work in Poland for 4 months sending CV's and answering job offers and the few replies i got were all those "template rejections".

I graduated in 2008 and have been working for over a year, my CV isn't that great, but i believe that the lack of Polish language has something to do with it.

btw: I have tried Intel, Accenture, Thomson Reuters, Symantec, SII, MicroStrategy and still nothing...i am starting to believe that for someone that cant speak Polish its impossible to find work there.

The majority of English speaking work out there is customer service...ish. Google, HP, etc. I think the only way that you would get IT work is if you had specialized skills. Like if you're a crazy old bearded man that has been working on AS/400s for the last 15 years.

Seems like friend of a friend manages to get quite a few people jobs here.

I'd keep my eyes open for a contract job. Work for a couple of months on the island or wherever, and take the rest of the year off in Poland.

Heh dunno I heard about people getting jobs around Silesia ( where I live and work ) in companies where staff is partially foreign fi. Siemens, DisplayLink is a UK company and they needed C/C++ coders some time ago..

hehe that made my day, it brings back some uni days and the guy who was teaching computer architecture, one of the laboratories was 3 hours with AS/400..

Financial crisis... Poland wasn't hit hard but most of companies don't hire many new people, so It's hard to get a job right now... and there are many good IT people in Poland, so one has to be very well qualified to get a good job in IT here. About the language... in most of companies in Poland they won't even look at you If you aren't fluent in Polish but in international comapnies like Intel, HP etc. that shouldn't be a big issue as the working language usually is English anyway.

What is the current situation on this post?

Arie, are you still looking for work? Have you indeed moved to Poland and if so where?

I moved to Krakow from the UK, almost 6 months ago now. I can say that finding work here is tough, especially if your only fluent language. I worked in IT prior to moving here but just skills alone seem to have the value of beans unless you speak another language or have a particular skill in IT i.e. Java Programmer, C++ etc etc etc...
