Hello!

Me and my wife moved to Poland since she has started to study here. Iam currently employed at a company with Swedish roots.
But I am not working with my biggest interest IT and thats what i want.

Currently looking form all kinds of IT jobs in Warzsawa, my old job have been a pain in the neck to get anywhere close since i donīt speak polish yet and as a consultant well communication is just a tiny bit important...

So anyone knows any IT company's employing english/swedish speaking guys like me? Good home pages?

And also if anyone is reading this best way to learn polish private lessons, company's? Dosenīt have so many polish speaking friends yet so canīt learn from them and at work we mostly speak Swedish :S

All kinds of tips and help is really appreciated!

Just wondering where in Sweden you're from. I lived both in Sweden (Goteborg) and in Poland (Szczecin) for a short while, as well as In Germany (Hannover and Berlin) for somewhat longer.

English will probably get you around Poland much like Swedish would around Germany LOL
Best to learn most of the lingo on site, I'd say-:) A crash course beforehand though wouldn't hurt either.

Best of luck!

Merely a side point, but many older Poles, i.e. 50+, understand quite good German depending on the level of education. Same too with the Swedes, I found when I was living there. Often, I simply gave up trying English and used basic German. At least at the time, it worked quite nicely-:)

Poles look forward to Swedish and other business from the more prosperous countries of Northern Europe! Sadly, it's not the reverseLOL

Thank you for you reply!

Lyzko: yeah noticed that too, my wife lived i Aachen germany for 5 year so she speaks german fluently so we have some luck with that tho, but i donīt. I used to live i Linkoping. Yeah been checkin out some courses in polish. I have feelīt the same way that you describe you are seen as a "respected" person immediately when you say you are Swedish and it has helped alot thats for sure!

Edwilczynski: i was specialized in support (Servicedesk) and Maintenance of servers, clients enviroment (W2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7, Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008, AD, MS Exchange, SCCM, WMware, ITIL. Worked with different company's in various sizes from 10 clients up to 1000 clients. On smaller company i help with backup, VPN-tunnels well pretty much anything the needed help with.

By the way, I passed through Linkoping en route back to Denmark where I was vacationing. Heard it's one of the larger cities in Sweden, industrial and filled with transients of late. But this was in the late 80's. Is that still true?

Goteborg was the only city I actually spent any time in. I had friends living in the center of town, but I had no real chance to explore the rest of the country.

Set yourself up with a hoster and sell VPN's as there is still a market out there and easy money each month.

Hi sniXer,

Could you send me PM and provide your mail address? I know American IT company in Warsaw which is looking for IT consultants. Polish is not required as our internal language is English. General technical skills are considered as plus: knowledge of db systems\sql or web and internet technologies. I can provide you with more details if you are interested.

Regards,

T.
Lyzko  Aug 10, 11, 13:45    #20
A word to the wise: Even when the "internal" language of a foreign-based (US) company is English, this rarely means that English is understood equally by all, native as well as non-native speaker-:)!
At learn the basics of the target language of the country in which you are being located, if for no other reason then plain respect, be it Poland, Estonia, Outer Mongolia or any other comparatively out-of-the-way place.

I could tell you stories from personal experience of American firms abroad where the office language was represented as English; the reality was, shall we say, somewhat different.
