Opus Dei opens school in Warsaw

I recently heard that Opus Dei had opened a school in Warsaw. To compete with the other International schools. Any updates on this one.

SeanBM: I am not familiar with the group, are you Not really apart from the standard stuff you read, of course I know it was founded by a spanish priest in the 1930's and in the 1980's Opus Dei were alleged to have loaned the vatican bank a lot of money to save it from going under. If it is true then it would be easy to understand why they became accepted by the vatican.

There was a guy by the name of Roberto Calvi who fronted one of the largest private italian banks and a big scandal broke in 1982 in which Calvi was implicated and because he was connected to the Vatican bank the V.B had to bail out the investors. Roberto Calvi was found hanging underneath a bridge in London. I think that is how the story goes. Google Calvi you will get the facts.

Didn't Pope JP II make them a vatican favourite over the Jesuits? I believe he was very keen on OD.

Roman Catholic Church is a highly politicized institution. Religion is just used as a front for their political activity. Wasn't Pope Pius XII or was it the XI kicked out of Poland in 1925 for political meddling? (It was the WWII pope). In 1930's Spain Opus Dei was involved in the Spanish Civil War and took the side of the Franco's fascists.

Later this year, Opus Dei, whose IESE Business School in Barcelona is considered one of Europe's best, plans to open a Warsaw branch. Radoslaw Koszewski, director of the Warsaw program, insists the school will not mix business and religion.

plk123: btw. that's from 2006 The thread is about a school for children. Two books were written about the 1982 situation, " The last supper " that attempts to link the death of R Calvi to Opus dei and "Gods Banker" which is another attempt to uncover the story. Opus Dei vehemently denies any link to R Calvi.

1jola: Is it really? Yes actually it is, I was informed that Opus Dei had opened a school in warsaw out towards Anin, I could not find any information on it so I thought I would ask some of the Polishforum. Come on 1jola this is the place of the well informed, on all matters Polish is it not.

It isn't. This the place to crap on things Polish mainly. There are a few expats here and a few Poles who would have more to say but the level of discussion is constantly brought down by various foreign yahoos having no interest in anything Polish. Yes, I heard that the first school excursion will go to interview the cross loonies. You have to stay in your habitat as it is :)
