Imo, may not be a good idea to do business with family members in Poland, nor anywhere for that matter.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

Here in Krakow I just paid 10zl/m2 to wash down, prime and paint with 2 coats of emulsion.

Also, have a look here for more ideas: http://malowanie-warszawa.pl/cennik-malowanie/cennik-malowanie-wnetrz. html

i can't help u with a price. but as this is the job that sets your reputation and u knowing that u are good, i would keep the price quite high.

in Poland when people come cheap they don't get taken seriously.

in your line of business the client often has little idea of what is required. so when it comes to bigger projects include knowledge of interior design. offer plenty of ideas etc.

some of the posters on here know a bit about fitouts maybe they can offer a few thoughts.

I also pay 10zl/m2 in Warsaw, they provide all materials except paint and will also remove all cracks and refill. The only thing we have to do is remove all electric points ready for painting. In Poland never get a quote by the hour, only price per job.

Materials in Pl are alot different to the UK, Cekol is used as a substitute for plaster and sucks like a sponge. One unibond coat is insufficient to seal the surface. Extra coats means it,s more time consuming, aswell as using more materials.
Primers and undercoats are a rarity, and vastly inferior to BS standards.
There is also little choice with colour ranges for gloss paints and again no undercoats ( no colours ).

These are but a few examples of whats facing you. Be sure to take this into account when pricing, or you could be shooting yourself in the foot.

Good luck.

well I am not an expert but from what I gather there is no such thing as real gloss paint in Poland (or maybe I have missed out on a couple of things)

Well I,m sure they don,t use varnish or stain on metalwork, aswell as woodwork that needs hard coating. Of course there is gloss paint in Poland, but where is the primers and undercoats to go with it as per manufacturers specifications. It,s like trying to bake a cake without one of the ingredients.

gloss paints were not very popular in Poland - and they were completely different technologically - and hmm they were not as glossy as what is full gloss paint in England (from what I have seen)

Exactly. I imported my paint from the UK, and constantly my neighbours comment how my windows are so shiny and don,t flake after a few years weathering.

It's not a problem to have undercoat or sealer shipped from the uk as i have friends who are in the trade ' its mostly about preperation if u don't prep it correctly then u can say 100% it will not last same with a good gloss finnish u also dont stock good brushes here no Hamiltons or purdy 'as for price work if they are willing to have a quality job then i will import the materials from the uk but if they want a polish job then i can give them that aswel once they see a nice job then just like your windows people can see the difference in the finnish an as u say they will not flake ' i would allways recomend 2 coats of undercoat then a light flick with good quality gloss :)

If you want to do good prep work, I suggest getting a 25kg bag of tetrion filler shipped too. Oh ! and a few different grades of green oxide sandpaper.
From experience, nothing worse than being here and not having some of the better quality gear to hand.
Good luck with your venture, hope I,ve been of help.

After all the Poles that have worked the UK building sites, I don,t understand why one of them hasn,t come back and started to import our finnishing plaster. Far superior to anything I,ve seen in Europe or the USA/Canada. In Poland they use Cekol which seems very microporous ( sucks like a sponge ), or an equivulent to our plaster, a grey German one coat plaster similar to what you,ll find in Wickes. But the product finish is somewhat gritty and requires a lot face filling after which defeats the object. This product is also machine mixed and pumped into the room. Labour charge per sq metre 20 - 25 zloty.

Wayman:
do they sell rapid set tile adhesive in Poland

Yep !
Klej szybkoschnacy / klej elastyczny or wysoko elastyczny( not quite sure if this last one is quick drying ).
Brands to look for, I recommend Ceresit CM17 or Sopro 400.

Make a note and take with you to the merchants, they should get the idea of what you,re looking for.

One thing that's worth telling you - in Poland, the usual practice is to quote a very high price, then go down a bit. Many people will also pay for something that they think is high quality (because the price is high) - so don't be afraid to ask for something really ridiculous.

I'd actually recommend trying to get away with UK prices if they look wealthy enough - don't be afraid!
