depends on what you are planning to study (if you don't have to study a lot, you'll have much time for work), where you would live (hall of residence is cheaper than a flat) etc.

students in Białystok probably speak English but people in Białystok... don't?

I don't really know because I don't live in Białystok. I think it's a much poorer city than the western ones so maybe you won't need as much money to survive as for instance you would need in Warsaw. My guess is that 2000 zł will be enough. If you are going to do extramural studies (classes only at the weekends) you'll have more job opportunities. Students usually work in pubs/restaurants, as shop assistants, deliver pizza (usually with their own cars, but you have to know the city)...

Good luck!

Well Białystok trades mostly with east so English is less helpfull in business, unemplyment is below Polish average but wages are below this averge as well.

As to academic level there hmmm Białystok has one of the best Medical Univerisites (2nd in Poland).

well as an former student of the west pomeranian business school, szczecin , that school really sucks ... and how cool , i am back to my kathmandu without any certificates . yeah by the way i have completed my course . And "stationary students are not allowed to work other than 3 months in summer" . if u are found working other than summer you will be deported back to your country. Two of my friends were deported of being found working right in front of my eyes . Half the year i was running after visa inspite of documents provided by the college . just be careful what country you are choosing for study .

sorry to hear about that but this particular institution does not have a good reputation even among locals, it is too bad that you have had such problems with visa too:(

If you are Indian it might be unwise to study in Poland as there is often a problem with racism here - against everyone who is not Polish. Take a look at this

policyjni.gazeta.pl/Policyjni/1,103617,6562854,Kolejny_rasistowski_ata k_.html

You should also consider Western Europe versus Eastern Europe and West Poland versus East Poland. Take it from me Bialystok is not the best direction.

If you want to work in Poland, you need to know Polish.

Is it really that difficult to understand?

Having said this, I'll pay you 3zl an hour.

what does that mean?

Poland was never a British colony. That means knowing Polish is more important than knowing Enlgish in finding a job in Poland.

This is maybe different from certain former colonies where English is still more important than local languages. But again, knowing Polish is more important than knowing English here. As a general rule, English only helps if you have really fluent Polish.

Is that clearer?

Depends on who you work for. At the multinationals it's all English.

But they mostly don't hire inside of Poland, especially students from non EU countries who don't speak Polish.
