Studying in University of Lodz as an Indian student? What's the city like - is it safe here?

My application got accepted in University of Lodz to study economics bachelor program in English. How is Lodz to study and live? any sort of help will be grateful.

can a student visa holder in Poland can i travel in Schengen countries? can good spoken english work as in living in Lodz. I am eager to work on my Polish if I study there.

I think you need visa legally then again there are no border controls so maybe you can get away with it but I wouldnt risk it call the respective embassies of the countries you want to visit.

Merged: Racism in Polish city Lodz

I'm planning to study my bachelors in University of Lodz. I found many things about polish but one thing which bothered me is the racism. I'm am Indian, look as a simple Indian with Wheatish complex. So I'm wondering whether the city Lodz is safe for me or not. Or any other city which is good recommended foe Indians. I'm curious of my studies in Poland. There's even an Indian IT company( Infosys) in Lodz.

so please help me with some information on Lodz and Poland.

There is a lot of foreign students in £ódź and I wouldn't say it's unsafe for them. Of course it's always better to avoid some city areas at night, but I think it is valid everywhere in the world.

Do you have seen any blacks or Indian in Lodz?

Why would you want to study in Lódź? It's an ugly and depressing city. Or anywhere in Poland, which is not one of the rich European countries? You could get at good or better and education in India.

India is not good for Social sciences subject. and my course bachelor in geography (taught in English) is not available anywhere in Poland or elsewhere.

And in sense India is more ugly and extra depressing than Lodz. even education here is not so good , what people thought of. And education here in India is based on multiple learning( theory based) , practical education has a lack here. so that i have chosen Poland and my subject basically based on practical and research.

Same in Poland. Practical education is terrible or non-existent. Sorry, but you've gotten some bum information about studying in Poland. Also, you will not be able to work as a student in Poland or earn money in any way, and there is no financial aid available. Pick a richer country, or stay at home. Poland has nothing to offer you.

I lived 12 years in Poland, and visited £ódź frequently. I also studied in the US, the UK, Germany and Denmark.

I'm sure you will love it. Lodz has changed recently, and they have great pubs, for example Off Piotrkowska or Manufactura- have a look on google to see what I am talking about. Also educational system is much better than in orher more expensive European countries, but you have to study hard, so it's not for everyone. I live in London now -a multinational city and can say that racism is everywhere. There is an guy from Nigeria who has been in Lodz for the past 20 years and is a member of the Polish Parliament now, so I don't think it's that bad.

but I don't have other options for my bachelor in climatology. university of Lodz is the only one I found better . And US or UK is out of my budget . So I don't want to be burdened for my parents actually...

I highly doubt that £ódź, or anywhere in Poland, is the best option open to you. If you think so, you have just failed to do your research properly.

Studying in Poland may actually turn out to be more expensive than studying in the US or UK because there are no scholarships or other financial aid available in Poland, nor will you be able to find a job to help you pay for your studies or stay.

And if you are concerned about not being a burden on your family, don't study something useless like climatology or geography. An undergraduate degree in those fields won't help you get a job. Get a serious engineering degree and then specialize in a related field for your masters.

Don't forget: Math is money, so if your math is not good enough to get into an engineering school now, hit the books and bring it up to snuff.

I'm a humanities student . so I can not apply for an engineering courses. And I'm very interested to study geography. It's my Favorite subject.

Majkel, in dom's world, if you don't make lots of cash, you have wasted your life. It's his right to believe that. We all know it's nonsense, but that's the way he feels. He rates people in my profession as lower than pondlife, even though it's extremely satisfying and rewarding.

It might be your favorite subject now, but you are going to hate it when you are flipping burgers or stocking supermarket shelves for less than starvation wages. And your spouse and kids will hate it even more.

Take a year and do the math courses necessary to be able to apply to engineering school. Bachelors degrees in humanities are generally worthless unless they come from excellent schools, and no schools in Poland are on that level.

In fact, nothing you've said indicates in any way that Poland is a good choice for you. Quite the contrary. You haven't thought this out and you haven't done your research, and it's going to come back and hurt you someday. You really need to talk to an experienced and realistic career/academic councilor, and not the kind that tells you what you want to hear.

Lodz has plenty of foreigners that stand out like Arabs, Asians and Africans. The city is multi-cultural, just look at the variety of restaurants. Yes like all Polish/European cities there are idiots who think they're patriots, and have nothing to do. No more here than I have seen elsewhere. There are loads of Multi-national companies here, for language skills they often hire abroad.

At the main University there is a large tower block dedicated to overseas students in their first year, hundreds if not thousands of them. Lodz University is well regarded and has good facilities. The residential area near the university is full of foreign students.

Work wise you will have very limited options (if any) to work legally. Your visa will state this.
Travel wise I doubt your visa will allow you to leave Poland, even though it is in Schengen. I know of one student who traveled to see his brother in Denmark and was stopped on a train in Germany. Deported directly back to his home country.

"Multicultural"???? What's the percentage of such foreigners? I'm sure 0.some%.
