Hello,

I am currently living in Belgium and getting a job offer to work Elblag. Could you please tell me:

- if 5000 PLN gross/month is enough knowing that I have a child who must be send to the nursery and a husband who will not be working until he also finds a job there.

- is there an english-speaking nursery in Elblag?

- How much is appromatively the flat rent there?

- Is it possible to live in Gdansk and work in Elblag? how long drive does it take?

- How much does an expatriate with 4 years working-experience earn? 5000PLN per month seems very low!

Many thanks!

very much doubt it - it's a small city

living in Gdańsk and working in Elbląg - it is possible from the commuting point of view but not very economical I'd say - not only will you be paying for gas (not much cheaper than in Belgium) but also rent in Gdańsk is more expensive - but it's true that your husband has greater chances of finding a job in Gdańsk - btw - if you really choose to live in Gdańsk you should definitely look for accomodation in the eastern part of the city (east of the Old Town) - traffic in Gdańsk itself can be really bad (you are not affected that much if you travel from eastern part of the city towards Elbląg)

about one hour (from the eastern part of Gdańsk) - count on 1 hour and a half in bad weather -

5000 PLN gross is not a bad salary, id say it all depends how much you expect your husband to be making once he gets a job?

It's not bad if you're actually from Elbląg - an expat would have different expenses and personally I wouldn't like to support a family on that much. It will be tight.

5000zl gross is a mere 3000zl net - it's going to be impossible on that.

it depends on rents very much - and I don't know the rent prices in Elbląg - 3000 PLN is enough for a single person I'd say but for a family with a nursery child hmm that really does not sound good

it is not enough money. Elblag is a nice enough city but as an expat you will be looking for different things than a local person. Your flat should be modern, your preschool should have an English speaker- car, etc etc. you won't be able to pay for these things on the salary mentioned.

Many thanks everybody for your answers and advises.

It is a job as Project Planner.

I will then seriously think about the offer and try to negociate for a better salary! :-) I guess then that I should earn at least 5000 NET/month!

Yes - that's important. On 5k gross, you won't be able to save or even live well. And it will be difficult to spend time back in Belgium.
