Wow, I just checked the currency converter, and its pathetic. 2000 zl is not even 700 dollars a month, and thats before taxes. people in Poland are getting paid peanuts.

Not arguing that it is not peanuts, but just to clarify, it is net, so after taxes (which, at least theoretically means that health, education, retirement, etc. is already paid for).

Yup, health-care is on strike, education is obsolete and the retirement pays nothing. I come off as a such a pessimist... But that's the reality.

Health care is perfectly adequate for the country's position, the education isn't bad (how can you say that unlimited, free education is "obsolete" and retirement can be ridiculously well paid, as it's based on your own contributions to the scheme.

Then again, you don't live in Poland, nor do you know much about the country.

As I wrote "theoretically". Practically speaking you are a pessimists to some degree:
- there is no better universities in Poland than state universities (which are for free if you are smart enough), but on the other hand there is no tech uni even close to MIT

- retirement pays you as much as you were able to save...
- as for a health-care it varies greatly. There can be two hospitals in a town, both state owned and both entirely different at the same time. It depends mostly of hospital management and quality of staff.

Anyway, above median salaries are net salaries, and most people don't pay additionally for above mentioned services but takes what state deliver wheter it is good or not.

According to people on this site, everybody in Poland is loaded and there is no property bubble, and there is no mass emigration and those who do, simply emigrate for fun.

I suppose Americans, sitting in a cold, dark flat in Krakow while making their wife work for peanuts (because she didn't go to a good university) would be miserable, yes.

I don't live in Poland but my relatives say things have improved a lot since 2006, and besides that I have also seen the changes myself during my visits. Many people that I know that moved to the USA have moved back to Poland now. Honestly, I have been in pretty much all of Europe and I don't think things are great anywhere right now. Poland has a lot going for it though, so to speak.

just about any wage is a good wage if you don't have to spend any of it.

too many variables to ask such a question.

Considering that most poles easily make under 3K PLN / month, then yes 5k is good.

indeed 5K is a good net salary, even if you end up paying for house, food, and other stuff, I think you should still be able to save 2.5k or 3k, which is still good, but which field will you get paid 5K

Here I need to say something:

The Polish Economy Has Improved alot, and is consistently improving. I know this as growing up I have seen improvements ... There are definately improvement on all levels, although we ae known to grunt ... but the fact is fact.

There will always be some VERY RICH minority who actually pull the GDP per Capita very high, however the ordinary folks (the majority) have less, maybe not 5K but also not 1K always. Ofcourse we have poorer folks ... but the middle class is not so weak as in other East European places.

I have some of my friends who earn quite well. I myself earn a decent amount, greater than 5K which I am happy about. Although this is not anything ultimate, people earn more!

Apart from the Polish, there are Russians or people from other European nations who earn a decent sum aswell. There are Indians (I have some friends from University) who earn better than 5K themselves (actually all of those whom I know and are still in Poland). So? ... Where is the poverty? ... Poverty is for those who have not helped themselves ... ofcourse the government have a share of blame, still all of us still have an opportunity better than many countries.

Tell me ... how come people from India or Bangladesh earn more than 5K easily? ... They seem to have a life after that, driving nice cars ... having good lives! All of them are married here with children, no family problems at least till now! ... Whats going on?

I have my Polish friends from school and university ... even they are doing much better. I have one friend from school who is not doing anything good due to his own mistakes!

One very close friend moved to USA ... and now somehow arranges USA citizenship for aspiring Poles using his many formulas =D ... he is quite rich! ... Whatever he does... he says its always within legal frames =D ... but anyway ... my point is that people can make it - so why cant others?

YOU NEED TO TRY HARDER!

I visit Poland a lot and I have been told a typical low salary is 1000zl a month - yet there seems to be lots of expensive cars around and my friendly hotel receptionist has her own flat, small car and a trip abroad every other year - none of which adds up unless everyone is borrowing loads.

For 1K no one would bother to move their ass from a couch if they had one :-). I used to employ university grads for 2,7K as a starting salary. And that was 3/4 years ago. They quickly progressed to 3,5K within a year or less. Well, but they were smart indeed.

Must I remind you again 'Lodz the joke' how ridiculous you sound on this forum?

Lodz the boat wrote yesterday:

I dunno what he is saying or thinking, but I can say that the Polish economy is not as strong as it used to be, and jobs are more scarce. This is all I can add to the cry of Polish economy suffering.

and now, yet again, you're completely contradicting yourself by writing this:

this was your response yesterday after I called you out on writing similar shite:

"But well ... you wont get it... its called being in love with ones country but yet at the same time being worried about it as well."

no. i think I get it just fine, pappy. it's not "being in love with ones country", it's blind patriotism mixed with utter frustration. bad combination yet common on PF.

I gotta say, you've created a great ad campaign for investing in Poland, btw. I'll start with your words, finish with mine:

"For the ones seeing green....do you know that the coming winter will not be sweet to many Poles?.....It's not paradise here......but please please please come and give this crappy place a try!!!"

As long as you have no mortgage/rent or kids and use public transport, the average salary is fine.

And if you want to have a mortgage and kids, you need to get a real job instead of spending the whole day surfing, er, sorry, I mean 'trying to be the next Bill Gates', while your wife goes out to work.
