Wife, baby and parents on 5000zl.

No hope.
5000zl would barely support one person in Poland......unless you want to eat beans and rice for the rest of your life.

What are your skills and experience?

that salary is very low and is not enough to sustain an entire family, and if you're like a Senior .NET Developer or such that's even criminally low, in other outsourcing multinational companies in West Poland such profiles get 8000/10000 gross a month.

Mind that being able to live with lower standards than westerns doesn't work in Poland :) not having relatives and not speaking the language are huge handicaps, your wife will not be able to find a job and you'll spend more than locals to live, things like 2-room apartments for rent and clothes are expensive for instance, in general all the voices that involve expats.

Also, we're talking about a country (Poland) that has approx. the same average salary of India in the big cities.

I wouldn't recommend it.
5000ZL gross would support you and your wife to a pretty normal life, but with the baby + supporting your parents back home, 5000 is not sustainable.

Unless its a great opportunity for you to grown professionally, I wouldn't advice you to take it.

Edit:

My mistake, 5000zl Gross wouldn't even be enough for you and your wife.
I read it as net...

You could survive, and you could send a little money back. However, do you want to come here just to survive? IBM are an absolute disgrace offering you this salary, especially if they knew that you are a family man. I'd advise you not to come under the circumstances. Good luck.

All of this information has been given many times on this forum (see below and elsewhere). After tax, insurance, rent and bills you would be among the poorest. It's just not worth the effort.

dunno about Katowice but in Poznan where I live (500k inhabitants):

- 45-60 sqm flat with bedroom and double bed (2 pokoje) approx. 2000 zl with all the utilities included
- food for one person you could be able to survive with 60 zl a week
- mobile and internet are pretty cheap, dunno really the expenses
- public transportation pass for 1 month (Peka seasonal ticket) 120 zl

60 zl a week, you are joking right?

That is way low. Even if your on the cheap.
Apartment with 2 rooms in Katowice all incl. 1600 or more.

+ Internet + Phone = 150 zl per month.

So let's say 5000zl after taxes is about 3700 than 2000zl will be spent on expenses.
Which gives you at the most 1700zl for you, your wife + the baby and supporting your parents back home.

There is no way buddy.

+1, I agree with everything there.

Like I said in my first post, 5000zl is brutal, tell them to either double it or stick it up their Nazi-helping a€€es

Yes it is IBM ;-)

best salary asked for 13+ yrs of experience

no idea, I know 2 things about IBM
1. They helped the Nazis round up the Jews in the 1930s, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_and_the_Holocaust
2. They pay crap wages

What ever they do offer though, tell them you want double.
I wouldn't even consider moving to Poland unless I was getting 10,000zl per month into my pocket after tax.

@Krzei: how do you survive on 60 ZL a week? By simply licking the walls? I wish I could. I spend 20+ ZL a DAY and am not on a caviar (never mind, I don't like that) and Champagne diet. Also bear in mind that Indians won't eat pork, potatoes and cabbage but shall buy imported stuff from India that's expensive and therefore shall spend much more than an average Pole.

Anyway, crossing half of the world, to come to a country like Poland and just .... survive, unless escaping nuclear war, what's the point? There is no way on a GROSS salary of 5,000, they'll even survive and spend money to family home. Most Poles manage on much less but they are Poles, they have their family network, they speak the language and they know how to live the Polish way of life.

And sorry, employers don't pay double or triple salaries simply because employees are married, have kids. Employers base their salaries upon job descriptions and employees' qualifications and experience.

Merged: IT professional salary expectation in Katowice!!

Hello,

I am from India, Bangalore and I have an interview in the pipeline from an organization in Katowice, Poland. I saw some older threads for the queries which I would be asking below but those threads was for different cities. As I am interested to hear about katowice, Please help me answer the below queries

1) I am married and what would be the competitive salary of a 5 years exp IT professional in Katowice? (Considering the fact of 30% tax)

2) How much would be the monthly expenses for daily life (1 bedroom apartment, Gas, Electricity, Groceries, internet, Transport, etc)

3) My wife is an interior designer, Are there any jobs for interior designers?

4) Does people in katowice speak Polish and English too?

Thanks,
********

To be specific my job role is IT specialist in IBM Tivoli Monitoring.

Take nothing less than 5000zl after tax, but try and get a lot more, like 8000zl per month.
Rent wpuld be approx: 1000-1500zl per month

[***************) I am married and what would be the competitive salary of a 5 years exp IT professional in Katowice? (Considering the fact of 30% tax)
Don't even think of moving to Poland for less than 5000zl per month after tax. It would be best for your wife to also get a job. 5000zl between 2 people isn't optimal. You'll survive, but you won't save money and you sure as chr!st won't enjoy it,

[***************) How much would be the monthly expenses for daily life (1 bedroom apartment, Gas, Electricity, Groceries, internet, Transport, etc)
Rent: 1000-1500zl per month.
Gas/Electricity: 300
Groceries: depends what you eat, anything from 500-1000zl per month
Internet & TV: 200zl per month
Phone: 100zl-200zl per month
Transport: I think a monthly bus & tram ticket is 300zl per month.

[**************]
3) My wife is an interior designer, Are there any jobs for interior designers?
Sure, get learning Polish though.

[**************]4) Does people in katowice speak Polish and English too?
People in their 30s and younger for the most part speak some English,it's pretty rare to find people in their 40s who spealk English. The woman working in your local convenience shop will not speak English, however, the waiter in the restaurant in the city centre will. Your bus driver won't, nor your newsagent. Most office staff would speak English though.

Good luck making your decision. Katowice has a bad reputation, but in the years I've been here it's improved year on year. It's safe, has nice bars, parks, restaurant. However, it's a lonely place on low wages so make sure and drive a hard bargain. No point in your travelling half way around the world to find yourself eating noodles and beans 6 days a week.

Nice article, overall I understand that Poland is not one country where u get in until unless u r being offered higher in u check UK or US or other EU country.

And it is very confusing, I'm in same position today as I'm being asked about salary expectation... Looks like 15 k is ok.. What to say I will move my wife, 2 kids of 6 yrs & 1 yrs. And have parents back in India...

What could be net for which I should except this offer... Mind it the profile is with 50% travelling out of Poland.

Hello All,

I am from India and being offered a salary of 5500 zl (net) at IBM in Katowice.
Moving with my kid and wife.
What should be the monthly expenses, provided my kid's vaccinations are going on and i need to support my parents a bit at home. I have also invested in some savings plan in India and need to save at least Rs 1LC in an year for them.

Moreover i have an offer from an Indian Company of about 8850 zl (gross).

Please suggest !!!

Sorry, but 5,500 even net with a wife, a kid and parents at home to support, no way! Besides, Katowice is not much more than a sh@@hole and I am not sure you'll be able to feel comfortable in Poland, as non whites and non catholics.

If in India, they offer you close to the double, why coming to Poland?

Finally, I have been offered 11,500 PLN (gross) - Is it a good take for a 5 years experience in IT?

Around 8000 PLN net and other allowances around 500 PLN..

Yea, it's OK, nothing wonderful but it's OK.
I hope though that it's only for supporting you, if you're going to try to support a family on that you will struggle.

Struggle on 11500k PLN ????? What's wrong with you people? 11500k is around top 1% household incomes in Poland! Creme de la creme

What's wrong with you people?

I agree. That's a fatcat income. One only read about such earnings in the tabloids but rarely meet such a person in real life. Unless you have lunch at Sowa & Przyjaciel.
