WORKING/LIVING ARRANGMENTS in UK

Hi wondered if anyone can enlighten me as to why some polish workers have free Lodgings and use of cars/petrol. With No holiday pay and siack pay Etc..??

Maybe they are self employed and therefore not entitled.

What type of jobs are you thinking about ?

No i don't think the paticular persom is self employed.. They work as a semi skilled fitter of aliminum windows Doors etc for a large company.

doesnt mean that they are not self employed - its a good way for employers to employ people without the workers registration papers and get out of paying NI, holiday pay etc., not so good for them because they should be saving for their tax bill and arranging to pay their NI - on the other hand they could just be working for a rather sh*tty company, sick pay is not a legal requirement for a company to pay, if they have paid enough NI then they can claim SSP if they have had more than the acquire time off sick in order to claim....

Agency workers dont get paid sick and some times holiday pay is built in to the weekly salary and left to the individual to save for holidays out of this...

Then they are self employed as a sub contractor for the large company (ie will hold or MUST HOLD CIS card and are responsible for their own tax payments and must have a tax accountant to sort their books which must run yearly ... Holiday pay you dont get when self employed nor do you get sick pay .. you can only make a contributions based claim to SSP and wait to see if successful or not but this is only advised if long term sick ....

and please dont say i am wrong as my brother and brother-in law work for a UK major window fitting company so i know what i am talking about ... !

On the living rent free cant help you there!
As both my brother and brother in law own their own properties .. and pay a mortgage on them ... !

Agreed with Tele', I used to work for(possibly the same company) a major "home improvments" co ,as a salesman,I was self employed and our fitters were self employed,about the only people in this field not self employed are the poor sods working in the telemarketing dept'.
