Working with my Polish friends in UK

Hello,

I've only recently joined this MB and read with interest all the thoughts about the Polish people who have moved to the UK.

Of course with so many people moving over here in a short space of time there are bound to be some problems but overall I think it is good for UK and good for the Polish guys and girls coming over.

I've been working with a few Polish people and I find them very warm, friendly, funny and hard working. They add (not take) from the UK economy. Wait a few years and the next Richard Branson is likely to be called Pawel or Dorota!

I also like learning Polish but I can only learn fonetically (by sound). So everyday I use some fabulous Polish words (with my English sound-a-like) ;-)

Yes, it suits the capitalists to have all these cheap labour Poles in our midst. It drives down the wage rates and this always benefits capitalism. England has traditionally survived on a low skill-low wage economy and this is fueled by the recent influx of Eastern European emigries. They have no connections with this country and therefore do not care about its long term welfare. I find them, on the whole, a two faced lot all together. Certainly not my cup of tea!

Paul, thank you for your kind post. Ths is not a bad forum, except that you can find here lots of posts that are hateful towards us Poles. One such hate-filled Polonophobe is the type calling himself 'Michal.' This is a real psychopath - a compulsive liar and boor. Above all, he pretends to be English, whereas, in reality, he is a former communist aparatchik from Poland (but not an ethnic Pole!), who fled to England in the 1980s. A real Orwellian piggy.

I learnt this by finding out that that Łódź is pronounced "Woodge". I've been mis-pronouncing the football team Widzew Lodz for 20 years!

Dear Michal and Noimmigration,

Sorry to spoil your fun on this thread, but a couple of facts for you:

1. We work in the IT industry. My polish mates are highly skilled. The company we work for simply can't find enough people with these skills in UK.

2. IT skills + several languages = my Polish mates are well paid.

3. They pay the top rate of UK income tax, national insurance, council tax etc. Therefore a net positive effect on the UK economy.

I have no probelm with highley educated poles who move to the uk, and find work in specialist jobs. strictly because of a skills shortage in the uk.

I just hope that business's do not scour polish universities for graduates instead of british ones

I object to hundreds of thousands of unskilled workers who shuldnt be here. and even the governent doesnt think they should be hear when they apologized for estimating that 40,000 would come to britain instead of nearly one million.

some polish girl in my work is getting housing benefit, child allowance and got a council flat after she and her mates made herself homeless by trashing the privately rented flat she shared with 6 other people (it was a two bedroom flat)

hopefully though she will soon die

The majority of benefit cheats in Scotland are...Scottish. Don't try and dispute that one.

BTW if it's so easy and wonderful to just claim benefits in this country, why are any Polish people working at all? Yeah, I think it's because they don't want to claim benefits, they'd rather earn their money.

What......like my company going out to Krakow to the CUT & Jagiellonian Universities to find lots more well educated, intelligent and hard working people. I'm just dissapointed I can't go on the trip. I did offer to help ;-)

Noimmigration, you're contradicting your own arguments with your own information!! I read the url you attached. The data above shows that less than 3% of Eastern European immigrants are claiming benefits. Furthermore, fewer poles apply for benefits compared to other Eastern Europeans.

From this we can draw the conclusion that only circa 2% of Polish immigrants claim benefits. I'm sure if we had the data for Scotland, the percentage would be much, much higher!

So my Polish mates taxes are paying for the Scottish benefits cheats ;-)

Has it occurred to you, who pays the hospital bills and schooling that they receive for free? Your attitude is short term and does not look at the picture in a wide and open view. In the long term the cost to us of immigration is exactly the same, if not even more than the so called financial gain through immigration. In Poland they have to pay for everything, even medicines for children, so they know that England is a 'soft touch'. Go to Poland and ask for something for free and see their resopnce to you!

At the end of the day the poles are giving this economy a much needed boost with a work ethic that frankly makes us brits looks incredibly lazy.

And don't get so worked up by it, all labour changes are cyclical and a majority of the poles don't intend to stay here permanently. I wouldn't want somebody telling me where i can and can't live, its everybody's basic freedom as far as im concerned.

The ignorance of some of the people on this message board is ridiculous, use some common sense and you'll see the real benefits of such a pluralised society
