YORKSHIRE POLICE SPEND 2 MILLION ON TRANSLATORS

According to the Yorkshire post , the Yorkshire Police spent two million pounds on translators to help with comunication between them and East european people...The language most often required being Russian and Polish....I think its good that they are making the effort to cope with those that visit the UK....On the other hand , when i went to the Police in Poland with a problem they were not a bit interested , untill i returned with a friend who spoke Polish....I guess there are not enough Brits here in Poland for them to need to learn English , but i have a feeling there might be a lot of Ukrainian , and Russian workers headed for Poland....Do they have access to translators in the Polish police..????

I dont think Polish officers would have a bigger problem communicating with russians or ukrainians.

english is a different issue tho

Of course...we are British for gods sake....Its about time the whole world was forced to learn English , so that us Brits don,t have to learn any of these strange languages,,,AND , its also time we made all these people who drive on the WRONG side of the road do it the same way as the British....We are British , so our way must be the right way.....

What a dreadful waste of good taxpayers money. It is not so much a fact that they are making an effort as you put it, rather they are leagaly obliged to investigate all reported crime.

Yeah........ and how much of that 2 million was actually spent on translators? As opposed to how much was spent on filling in forms asking for translators???????????????

And yeah, I get it's a joke...... but.... you get, also, how Police budgets work!

They are also spending a bit of money on leaflets wriiten in Polish to explain UK driving laws , and road signs etc....Seems there are a lot of accidents involving newly arrived Poles....I know a Latvian friend of mine had four accidents in month when she first came to Leeds , mind you , she was a nutter.....

We bought our house from an engineer who moved to Northampton after retirement. Near to where he lives is a long road which runs along the side of a canal bank. When he visited us about two years ago, he told us how three Lithuanians in a car drove in to the water and drowned.

Employing 'outside people' in professional capacities can indeed be very expensive, twenty to twenty five pounds an hour.

Others would say it is the green and pleasant heart of England. Not full of Ya Ya southern buffty types and mockney geezers and all manner of other wonderfull english creations. The home of the industrial revoloution and the county with more great estates and country palaces than any other in England or the UK.The pulse of the UK.Home of the Brontes,Jeremy Clarckson, the calender girls, whippets, flat caps and highly competitive pigeon races........

Perhaps i should have pointed out in my first posting , that they don,t need all these Polish translators because they are constantly arresting Polish criminals , its just that with the large number of Poles in the UK , the witnesses to many crimes are often unable to speak English....
