hi everyone, im looking for someone to tell me that everything is going to be kool....Im a kiwi and I have a beautiful polish girlfriend.. we've been together for over a year and i've already had a 2yr working visa in the UK (where she lives) im back in NZ But Im getting a Irish 1yr visa just to be with her. yup shes moving toIreland with me and after that we wana live together in the UK. Here's my question do we have to be together for over 4 yrs to live together in the UK?????

If you marry an EU citizen then you can stay with them anywhere in the EU is the general rule. Not sure how the new entrants are treated in this respect but I think it was subject to a two year period that has not expired.

Not married but living together is more difficult. Have you checked out our Home Office website as there are loads of detailed docs to read on the subject. Can't remember the address but just google for direc gov in the Uk and go in through that portal.

Im no expert on this, but Im English and living with a Pole in the UK. My understanding is that as a EU citizen he has the right to remain here indefinitely even if we dont marry.
As a Kiwi, you will presumably be on a limited time work permit and therefore only have the right to remain in the UK for as long as that lasts. Your girlfriend should be able to stay here as she is a EU member. Not sure about whether you should get married.. but staying in the UK isnt a good enough reason to take that step.. unless you want to do it anyway. Hope this is useful and anyone feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

if getting married is the only way to be together than that sucks.... wedont want to be say to our kids that hey we only got married because thats the only way we could stay together in the uk!!
for sure sapphire we dont want that to be the reason behind our love for each other.. just need to figure out how to be together with all the complications we have on our plates... like the living together for more than 2yrs (with proff) Our status so far is together for more than a year but not living together and going to be living together in ireland for 1yr..then when that is up I have to leave! (because of visa) what do we do???

sorry I dont know what to advise, but even if you do marry, Im not sure that will give you the right to remain in the UK, since neither of you are UK citizens. Probably best to check with home office for exact rules and regs... otherwise, take her back to NZ.. its gotta be better than living here.. the way things are going.

Well, I have to agree with that, I'm a Brazilian/Italian woman married to a Polish man, never been so happy in all life, not only for the sex, of course, he's amazing in everything he does and yes, he looks hooooooooot!

you are such a kill joy. you're answer is logical but somehow practically incorrect. so, when do we actually get the extra day huh? we should get it by the end of the year, don't you think so, because the earth finishes to revolve around the sun after a year? so, it should take one extra day to actually complete its 4th revolution. and our anniversary was last april 9, you see =P

I've been a relationship with a Polish guy for nearly a year, a bit like kamyk but I left my husband for him, so his family will never accept me either. I certainly know that age doesn't matter to him as I'm over 12years older than him, but like you I'm still not sure how strong his feelings are for me, certainly growing the longer we are together but still a wide void to bridge as he keeps alot of secret/private thoughts to himself, but we're happy.

Laungage barrier can make things aukward and I often misunderstand leading to un-neccesary upset......

What is this teenager thing? It is absolutely true. I feel about 15, mostly, with him. And it feels GOOD. I deeply dislike being a 'grownup'.
